Building Better. MODUS Structures Inc. is an experienced off-site design, manufacturing, and construction company, based in Crossfield, Alberta. Established in 2004, MODUS has successfully provided innovative and cost-effective building solutions to the educational, commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional sectors. Operating two manufacturing facilities totaling 200,000 sq. ft. of insulated and heated workspace, the MODUS team works to design, manufacture, and deliver building projects faster than traditional site-built methods.


Role Description

Reporting to the Design Manager, the Drafting Technologist supports the Design team through Revit modelling, technical drafting, construction detailing, visualization, and drawing production. Working under the direction of the Design Manager and Design Leads, the role prepares accurate and complete drawing and IFM (Issued for Manufacturing) packages for permitting, procurement, off-site production, and on-site assembly.

The position supports the development of project documentation by incorporating approved design information, consultant and supplier documents, redlines, revisions, and production requirements into models and drawing sets.


Responsibilities

Drafting, BIM & Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain Revit models, drawings, details, and technical documentation under the direction of the BIM Lead and Design Leads.
  • Prepare drawing packages for permitting, procurement, off-site production, and on-site assembly.
  • Prepare architectural and construction details, including building assemblies, interfaces, and modular connections, based on approved design direction.
  • Prepare 2D drawings, 3D views, diagrams, and presentation materials.
  • Update models and drawings based on reviewed markups, approved design information, and issued revisions.
  • Create and maintain Revit families, schedules, sheets, and templates, and apply established project standards as required.

IFM Package Support

  • Support Design Leads in preparing and completing IFM packages.
  • Incorporate approved shop drawings, RFIs, revisions, product information, and production requirements into the applicable drawing package.
  • Identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete information and bring it to the Design Lead for direction.
  • Revise packages based on Design Lead comments until they are ready for submission.

Visualization & Presentation Support

  • Prepare photorealistic renderings, colored floor plans, presentation graphics, and visual materials to support design development, client communication, and marketing.
  • Create 3D models and presentation views using Revit, 3D Max, Twinmotion, or comparable visualization software.
  • Support Sales and Design initiatives through accurate visual representation of approved design concepts.


Quality & Document Control

  • Prepare drawing packages in accordance with Design Department standards, templates, document-control requirements, and quality procedures.
  • Maintain organized Revit models, views, sheets, families, and project files.
  • Ensure drawing revisions and approved changes are accurately incorporated and traceable.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or a related program.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of experience in architectural, engineering, or modular building drafting and BIM production.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience creating and managing BIM models and drawing packages.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Revit Cloud Models.
  • Strong understanding of building systems and architectural and structural modelling principles.
  • Knowledge of building construction methods, assemblies, and materials.
  • Ability to prepare permit, construction, manufacturing, and IFM documentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable building and safety codes.
  • Knowledge of creating parametric Revit families, view filters, and templates.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.


Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience with Forma Build.
  • Experience with Twinmotion or comparable rendering software.
  • Experience in modular or prefabricated construction environments.
  • Knowledge of Arkance Wood Framing Tools.
  • Familiarity with MEP coordination and MEP modeling.
