3D Annotation information

What is 3D annotation?

3D annotation is the process of labeling or tagging objects, features, or areas within three-dimensional data, such as point clouds, meshes, or 3D images. It is commonly used in fields like autonomous driving, robotics, and augmented reality to help machine learning models understand and interpret 3D environments. Annotators may identify and classify objects, draw bounding boxes, or segment specific regions within the 3D space. This data is crucial for training and validating AI systems to recognize and interact with real-world objects accurately.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3D annotation specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a 3D Annotation Specialist, you need attention to detail, spatial awareness, and basic knowledge of 3D modeling or computer vision, often supported by a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with 3D annotation tools like Supervisely, CVAT, or Labelbox, and experience with relevant file formats and data management systems, are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, patience, and effective communication help individuals stand out in this meticulous, collaborative role. These skills ensure accurate data labeling, which is crucial for the development and training of reliable AI and machine learning models.

What are the typical challenges faced when working in 3d annotation roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in 3D annotation often encounter challenges such as maintaining accuracy while labeling complex objects from multiple angles and ensuring consistency across large datasets. The work can be repetitive, requiring strong attention to detail and patience to avoid errors that may impact downstream machine learning models. Collaboration with data scientists, software engineers, and QA teams is essential to clarify guidelines and resolve ambiguities. Adopting efficient annotation tools and proactive communication within the team can help overcome these challenges and improve workflow efficiency.

You will perform non-routine and complex BIM modeling and Civil3D drafting assignments requiring application of standardized electronic modeling/drafting techniques. You will be expected to work on multiple projects simultaneously and coordinate with your supervisor regarding workload to meet project deadlines without compromising work/life balance. Position requires knowledge of procedures for design development and construction documents for water/wastewater and infrastructure projects. The ability to work as an integrated member of a project team and willingness to collaborate with colleagues from other offices is essential.

The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Google Earth, and Autodesk Revit. Candidates with demonstrated proficiency in at least Civil3D and/or Revit are encouraged to apply.  Collaborative design development is key to our success, and as such, applicants should expect to be in the office at least four days per week.

  • Creation of design drawings and development of initial engineering layouts for water/wastewater/stormwater conveyance systems and site civil plans.
  • Assembly of plan sets and coordination with multiple engineering disciplines and associated reference files.
  • Learn and apply project/client specific drafting standards to drawings.
  • Ability to work independently to perform redline revisions and develop design drawings from initial sketches.
  • Performance of basic quantity and geometry calculations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail and demonstrated organizational skills
  • Ability to recognize issues and solve problems autonomously
  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and prioritize workloads associated with several projects.
  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology/CAD or minimum of 2-years equivalent professional CAD experience with AutoDesk certification.

  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and BlueBeam Revu.
  • Strong ability to follow written and oral instruction, tasking assignments, and documenting completion of tasks
  • Prior and extensive use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, BIM, Revit, Navisworks and/or Autodesk Infrastructure
  • Experience developing alignments and profiles of water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer utilities utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience developing drawing and supporting design figures for water and wastewater treatment facilities and pump stations using Revit.
