Job Summary

Position Summary

The Engineer 1 position requires 0-5 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor’s degree with a focus in Mechanical, Civil or General engineering experience. Responsible for applying engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power-related systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports estimate preparation, develops design options, and prepares construction specifications
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages
  • Creating a safe work environment by putting safety first
  • Understand the process used for planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance
  • Understanding the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in design, construction, and maintenance
  • Understanding design practices and work processes
  • Using all software applications used in design
  • Understanding industry and Southern Company design standards
  • Supporting design standard and criteria development for the system
  • Supporting construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operations
  • Estimating material for projects
  • Transmitting construction packages and supporting specifications
