Skilled Trainer for Military Mile Project

Give an Hour

El Paso, TX

Job description

Seeking Skilled Trainers

For the past 20 years, Give an Hour has been dedicated to supporting our military community with our mental health services. Founded in the aftermath of 9/11, we recognized the urgent need for life-saving mental health support for those who had sacrificed so much. We are seeking a skilled trainer to support a project, The Military Mile Project, on military bases.

The Military Mile Project

At Give an Hour, we've made it our mission to stand in the gap for those who feel hopeless, offering support, connection, and care when it's needed most. Our latest initiative, the Military Mile Project, is a powerful example of how we're working to protect our active-duty soldiers from suicide. The Military Mile Project is an initiative aimed at training 2,000 service members across 10 military bases. This project empowers our warriors to support 6,000 of their peers, breaking stigma and building resilience. Through three 90-minute trauma-informed training sessions, we prepare these leaders to handle stressors, fight stigma, navigate difficult conversations, and support their peers. Every soldier trained becomes a fighter against the silent enemy within and a perpetuator of the hope that we all need.

Give an Hour at Texas Army Base

Over the last 3 years, we have worked with leadership at all levels to find the most effective way to access active-duty soldiers, infusing mental health training into interventions that already exist on base. This has evolved into a monthly opportunity to train soldiers directly on base, and to date, we have trained over 400 soldiers. To continue this work, we are seeking local trainers who can dedicate up to 3 days per month to delivering this intervention while working alongside the national Give an Hour office to ensure thoughtful evaluation practices.

Finding the Right Fit

Our ideal candidates for this work would be a Veteran. We are not looking for a clinician- one of the values we have as an organization is to up-skill individuals who are not mental health professionals to provide support for others.

The right candidates will have experience in the below:

  • Knowledge about the mental health field, does not have to be a mental health professional
  • An exceptional ability to connect with individuals in a meaningful way during a short training period
  • Deliver information, provided by the organization, in ways that feel both empowering and engaging
  • Consistency and proficiency in working with teams and within systems

More Position Details & How to Apply

  • Our trainingsare currently during the first week of each month and require full availability Tuesday- Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • The position is considered a contract role, starting February 2026
  • The pay will correspond with previous experience with the population and proven excellence as a trainer.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and a resume that reflects the skills needed for this position.
