2nd Shift Security Officer 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

  • Must have the ability to pass a background screening and motor vehicle report (MVR) to meet minimum insurance underwriting criteria.

The Missouri Botanical Garden is seeking a full-time (Unarmed) Security Officer to join our team. The Security Team helps protect one of the most beautiful and respected Botanic Gardens in the country. In this role, you'll provide a visible presence while patrolling our buildings, grounds, and parking areas to ensure the safety of all staff, visitors and property, including during large-scale public festivals and events.

This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, being comfortable with all seasons. Must be comfortable working on the Garden grounds around the general public, in a safe and friendly manner, answering questions regarding the Garden and its operations. The Garden offers a predictable monthly rotating schedule that provides stability and flexibility. The Garden has security on site 24/7, you will be required to work holidays and eligible to receive a holiday pay rate when working assigned Garden holidays.

Schedule:

1st Shift: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm

2nd Shift: 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm

3rd Shift: 11:00 pm - 7:00 am

Pay: This position starts at $19.00 per hour. 3rd Shift is paid shift differential of $2.50 per hour.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Works with the general public and provides customer service to visitors, volunteers and employees.
  • May act in a dispatch capacity, monitoring emergency management systems and answering the Security Phone Lines.
  • Patrols premises and conducts ground inspections on foot and using Garden vehicles.
  • Acts as First Responder to medical emergencies, administers First Aid/CPR/AED as needed.
  • Detects and reports to supervisor any suspicious activities/actions which may be a threat to employees, visitors, volunteers, Garden property, etc.
  • Secures all exits, doors, and windows.
  • Monitors surveillance cameras and HVAC systems.
  • Respond to alarms in a timely manner.
  • Submits daily activity reports, using computer programs.
  • Identifies safety concerns.

What You'll Need For Success

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to pass a background screening and motor vehicle report (MVR) to meet minimum insurance underwriting criteria.
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience as a security guard; public venue experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of skills, education and experience may be considered
  • Good understanding of legal guidelines for area security and public safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively write reports, construct emails and business correspondence using correct grammar/sentence structure, spelling, etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security officer's licenses (St. Louis City or County) within (2) months of hire date.
  • Ability to obtain the following certifications within (2) months of hire date and renew annually is required: American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and the Garden's Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Exceptional time management skills, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively/clearly at all levels; must enjoy and feel comfortable interacting and working in close proximity to general public.
  • Ability and willingness to work in varying temperatures and all-weather conditions outdoors and indoors.
  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
