Job description

Position Overview
Provide operations support of various types and in various locations at Empire Candle.
Position Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Hourly pay rate: $16.50
Essential Job Functions
include, but not limited to:
  1. Ability to work as PO labeler in distribution or production level 1 general labor as assigned.
  2. Have a means of moving from assignment as necessary including changing part way through a work day. Work could be in any of the company addresses – 204 Donovan Road, 2925 Fairfax Trafficway, 2900 Fairfax Trafficway or 3100 Fairfax Trafficway.
  3. Keep in communication with the person assigned to coordinate your work group via telephone to confirm work assignment for the next work day (assignment changes within a day would be communicated through local supervision).
  4. Comply with all workplace standards and safety procedures, including Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements (OSHA), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Company Guidelines.
  5. Follow equipment operating parameters to maximize production, while meeting all product specifications.
  6. Equipment that may be used during general labor activities include, but are not limited to:
    • Scissors – used to trim wicks, undo pallet wrapping, open boxes
    • Box Cutters – used to undo pallet wrapping, open boxes
    • Hot Plates – used to heat hot melt adhesive to glue wicks into jars manually
    • Wicking Machines – automatic and semi-automatic wicking machines that assist in placing and gluing wicks in jars
    • Pour Heads – automatic liquid filling machines that dispense the desired amount of wax into each jar
    • Heat Gun – used for touching up minor aesthetic blemishes on candles
    • Labeler – Applies labels to the product
    • Taper – Applies box tape to the packed-out corrugated cases
    • Tape gun to repair incidental damage to cartons
    • Hand or semi-automatic stretch wrapper to secure pallets
    • Pallet pal ergonomic lifting/rotating tables
    • Hand operated pallet jacks or manual stackers
  7. Production Level 1 General labor activities include, but are not limited to: (2925 Fairfax Trafficway)
    • Standing for up to 12 hours per shift
    • Bending and reaching
    • Tasks that require good finger dexterity like manually gluing wicks in jars, using scissors, putting lids on vessels, etc.
    • Unloading empty jars from pallets
    • Loading empty jars onto conveyor belts
    • Placing metal wick holders on poured candles to keep wicks centered and straight
    • Putting lids on jars
    • Assembling corrugated components such as boxes and partitions
    • Packing finished products into boxes
    • Stacking finished cases onto pallets in the correct Ti-Hi pattern
    • Display and assortment building in project areas
  8. PO labelling activities include, but are not limited to: (3100 Fairfax Trafficway, 2900 Fairfax Trafficway)
    • Follow the instructions that are given by the label team lead
    • Match PO labels to the case number and apply PO labels to cases
    • Keep track of case counts for each completed pallet for use in preparing shipping documents
    • Unwrap and unstack pallets of product to prepare for team member to apply label to
    • Stack cases to pallets and stretch wrap pallet when finished
    • Understand how pallets are built in a consistent hi/tie fashion and follow accepted stack patterns
    • Work with others in a team-oriented environment
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This will be verified via practical testing administered by a member of management or QC.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
  1. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Obtain a passing score for this job on Empire Candle math test
  3. Detail orientated and highly accurate.
  4. Must be able to communicate verbally and interpret written work instructions.
  5. Manufacturing experience in a high paced facility preferred.
  6. Basic computer skills required.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work safely in a production environment required.
  8. Demonstrated ability to read/interpret/follow instructions in regard to workplace documentation, such as:
    • SOP’s, Operator Checklists, Work Instructions, etc.
  9. Work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated once training is completed
  10. Low sensitivity to highly fragranced work environment.
  11. Good color acuity.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  1. Position requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time; walking around plant; lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds.
  2. Ability to bend, stoop, lift and reach repetitively.
