Position Description
Summary/Job Description:
The purpose of this job is to operate a dump truck, concrete mixer, heavy hauler, or any of Newport Paving and ready Mix, LLC. CDL required vehicles safely, productively, and efficiently. This job could require hauling construction materials (dirt, asphalt, concrete, heavy equipment, etc.), conducting routine inspections of equipment, safe operation, clean driving history, and both on-road and off-road driving situations.
Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required for this position will vary.
  • Proficiently operate a CDL required truck in a safe and productive manner.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local traffic laws.
  • Perform a daily walk-around inspection and comply with preventive maintenance responsibilities.
  • Follow all the policies set forth by Blalock Companies as it relates to operating on-the-road heavy trucks
  • Perform job responsibilities safely in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Able to work hours as needed by the work schedule put out by a directing supervisor.
  • Understand the value of teamwork and communications.
  • Performs any or all duties assigned to less skilled employees and other job-related duties assigned by the field supervisor

  • 21 years of age
  • Valid Commercial Driver License
  • Valid and up to date Medical Card
  • Must meet standards for DOT Physical examination and DOT Drug Screen
  • Excellent driving record and history
  • Comply with work references and criminal background check
  • Complete and comply with I9 and EVerify requirements
  • Complete all elements of employment processing

Job Requirements:
  • Must maintain a State of Tennessee driver's license at a class required for the truck assigned
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform work tasks production/quality level set by the Company
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the general public
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform all work in a safe manner
  • Demonstrate the ability to wear and maintain Personal Protect Equipment

Job Duties Required:
  • Continually stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, bend, crawl, and climb
  • Continually use verbal communications (speech/hearing)
  • Continually have a full range of motion for arms, hands and fingers
  • Continually demonstrate visual acuity, depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision
  • Continually demonstrate ability to continually lift and move weights of 15 to 25 pounds
  • Intermittently demonstrate ability to lift and move weights of 50 pounds

  • Work 12 hours per day

  • Employee selection gives preference to related construction experience and work related education

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of CDL experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Off-road experience
  • 1-2 years of construction experience
