Position Overview
UES is seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental Remediation Engineer (PE) to join our growing Environmental Division. This is a technical leadership role for an engineer who has successfully designed, implemented, and optimized environmental remediation systems-not simply investigated contaminated sites.
We're looking for someone who can immediately contribute to complex remediation projects by providing expertise in remedial system design, pilot testing, construction oversight, system optimization, and long-term operation and maintenance. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while mentoring junior engineers and environmental professionals on challenging projects across the Midwest.
This role is ideal for a Professional Engineer who enjoys solving complex groundwater and soil remediation challenges and wants to make a lasting impact on projects from initial evaluation through successful remediation.

Technical Leadership
  • Lead the technical design of groundwater and soil remediation systems.
  • Design and evaluate Air Sparging (AS) and Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) remediation systems.
  • Develop and oversee AS/SVE pilot testing programs and interpret pilot test data.
  • Prepare remedial design packages, specifications, calculations, and engineering drawings.
  • Evaluate remedial alternatives and recommend practical, cost-effective treatment solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise during remedial system installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot existing remediation systems and recommend performance improvements.
  • Develop and implement Operation, Maintenance & Monitoring (OM&M) programs for active remediation systems.
  • Support construction oversight and quality assurance during remediation system installation.

Environmental Engineering
  • Lead environmental investigations involving soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion.
  • Interpret hydrogeologic and environmental data to support remedial decision-making.
  • Support Brownfield redevelopment and industrial remediation projects.
  • Assist with PFAS investigation and remediation projects as needed.
  • Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, design memorandums, and remedial action plans.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Project & Client Leadership
    • Serve as a technical advisor to project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
    • Mentor junior engineers and environmental scientists.
    • Participate in client meetings and technical presentations.
    • Assist with proposal development, project planning, and scope preparation.
    • Support business development by identifying opportunities with existing and prospective clients.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 8+ years of progressive environmental consulting or remediation engineering experience.
