    Position Summary

    The Cost Accountant plays a critical role in supporting project financial management, cost control, and accounting operations across the company's infrastructure development and construction projects. This position is responsible for tracking project costs, maintaining accurate job cost records, processing invoices and payments, and support reporting requirements across multiple active projects.

    The Cost Accountant will work closely with project managers, consultants, external accountants, and company leadership to ensure financial information is organized, accurate, and up to date.

    This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, project-driven environment, and has experience with construction, development, infrastructure, or project-based accounting.

    Key Responsibilities

    Accounting & Financial Administration

    • Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable
    • Maintain accurate financial records and data entry
    • Assist with bank and credit card reconciliations
    • Support monthly and year-end reporting processes
    • Maintain organized financial files and documentation
    • Assist with payroll administration and expense tracking
    • Support GST/PST and other regulatory filings and reporting requirements

    Project Cost Tracking

    • Track project expenses and contractor invoices across multiple development projects
    • Maintain job cost records and project financial tracking spreadsheets
    • Assist with monitoring budgets, change orders, and project-related costs
    • Support preparation of project financial summaries and reports
    • Help organize documentation related to contracts, invoices, and progress billings

    Operational Support

    • Work with project managers, consultants, and external accounting partners to support financial reporting and project coordination
    • Assist with improving internal financial processes and reporting systems
    • Support general administrative and accounting tasks as required

    Systems & Tools

    Current systems include:

    • Xero
    • Plooto
    • Payworks
    • Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet-based reporting systems

    The company is also exploring additional construction and project management systems such as Procore and Asset.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Diploma, degree or professional designation in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
    • Minimum 2–3 years of accounting experience
    • Experience in construction, development, or project-based environments is considered an asset
    • Experience with Xero and Microsoft Excel preferred
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills

    Compensation

    Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000
    Compensation is flexible and negotiable based on experience.
