Job description

We are conducting a confidential search for anAccounting Manager (or heavy Lead Senior Accountant - RE Portfolio Finance)on behalf of a highly regarded private real estate investment firm.

This is a broad real estate accounting position supporting a portfolio of institutional commercial properties held through funds and joint ventures. The Accounting Manager will serve as the internal accounting owner for assigned investments, oversee reporting completed by third-party property teams, and work closely with senior accounting leadership and colleagues across Asset Management, Acquisitions, Finance, Tax, and Construction.

The opportunity offers considerably more variety than a traditional roles. Responsibilities span portfolio oversight, financial reporting, joint ventures, debt compliance, audits, transactions, development activity, and process improvement.

What you will do

  • Oversee accounting and reporting for an assigned portfolio of commercial real estate investments.
  • Review work completed by third-party property accounting teams, including monthly reporting, rent rolls, lease activity, cash, budgets, forecasts, and operating expense recoveries.
  • Prepare or review property, combined, and joint venture financial reporting, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and supporting schedules.
  • Support capital calls, distributions, management fees, income allocations, and waterfall calculations.
  • Coordinate loan compliance, including covenant reporting, debt-service calculations, mortgage activity, and loan or escrow draws.
  • Manage year-end audit requirements and assist with financial statements and footnotes under fair value GAAP and tax-basis reporting.
  • Partner with transaction teams on acquisitions and dispositions, including diligence, settlement statements, prorations, opening and closing entries, and post-close true-ups.
  • Support development accounting, special projects, and improvements to reporting processes and controls.

What we are looking for

  • Approximately four or more years of relevant experience in commercial real estate accounting, real estate portfolio or fund accounting, development accounting, or public accounting with meaningful real estate clients.
  • A strong understanding of financial statements, cash flows, GAAP accounting, and the economics of real estate investments.
  • Experience in severalnot necessarily allof the following areas: CAM or tenant recoveries, joint ventures, fair value reporting, waterfalls or promotes, loan compliance, year-end audits, acquisitions and dispositions, or development accounting.
  • Ability to take ownership of deadlines, review detailed work, solve problems, and communicate effectively with accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
  • CPA, advanced degree, MRI or Yardi experience, and prior staff supervision or mentoring are helpful but not required.
