Position Summary:
Responsible for managing Behavioral Health Services department personnel and day-to-day work activities, to include Behavioral Health Training Courses. Additionally, the position requires collaboration directly with external treatment partners to ensure member access to high quality, evidence-based and culturally competent behavioral health, and addiction care. This position reports directly to the Assistant to the General President for Health and Safety.
Responsibilities:
Manages the department’s programs for overall adherence to the program/project plan and success in execution
Analyzes project needs and determines the best way to integrate the work across the department based on staff members’ specific expertise and skills sets
Develops programmatic materials, including online courses and training modules, which specifically address fire fighter occupational health and safety
Presents, and/or assists with delivery of behavioral health presentations at IAFF conferences, monthly webinars, fire service symposium and related events
Actively participates and collaborates with our IAFF behavioral health treatment partners, to include bi-weekly meetings coupled with working directing with our partners to find opportunities around insurance obstacles to ensure a member is admitted to one of our partner’s treatment facilities.
Assists with the coordination of assembling IAFF Peer Support Teams in providing behavioral health services to affected local(s) after a disaster (e.g., weather related, man-made, LODD, etc.) which may include possible travel to the affected site
Works with other departments seeking opportunities for grant awards and creative funding to enhance current training curriculum while creating a vision for future training programs
Identify and engage external stakeholders and partners to develop research and training programs.
Develop, track, and monitor all Health, Safety & Medicine Division’s research projects.
Assist with health and safety legislative and presumptive efforts.
Perform literature review and peer review evaluation of new research.
Oversee related budgets.
Provides technical assistance to local affiliates
Verifies expense reports for external consultants working on behavioral health programs
Generates ideas for internal process improvement and innovation in departmental offerings
Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission
Position will require travel for training, IAFF events, and other ancillary needs
Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously including planning, organizing, development, and deployment
Ability to delegate tasks efficiently
Ability to work diligently and effectively with other IAFF department, all IAFF members and contractors
Knowledge and understanding of the Behavioral Health Programs the IAFF offers and delivers
Familiar with health-related standards for fire fighters (NFPA, OSHA law, and legislation)
Public speaking experience preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the fire service
