What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Procurement Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Procurement Specialist, you need strong analytical abilities, negotiation skills, and a solid understanding of supply chain management, often supported by a degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with procurement software (such as SAP Ariba or Oracle), contract management systems, and relevant certifications like the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) is highly valued. Attention to detail, effective communication, and relationship-building skills help professionals excel in vendor management and cross-functional collaboration. These skills ensure cost-effective sourcing, risk mitigation, and smooth operations throughout the procurement process.

How does the procurement role typically interact with other departments within an organization?

Procurement professionals regularly collaborate with various departments such as finance, operations, and legal to ensure that purchasing decisions align with organizational goals and compliance standards. For example, they may work with finance to establish budgets, with operations to understand inventory needs, and with legal to review contract terms. Effective communication and strong relationship-building skills are essential, as procurement often serves as the bridge between internal stakeholders and external suppliers. This cross-functional collaboration helps streamline processes and ensures the organization receives the best value from its vendors.

What is procurement and what does a procurement professional do?

Procurement refers to the process of sourcing, purchasing, and acquiring goods or services that a business or organization needs to operate. Procurement professionals are responsible for identifying suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring quality standards, and managing costs. They play a vital role in maintaining supply chains, supporting operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations. Their work often involves collaboration with multiple departments to understand needs and secure the best value for the organization.

Chicago, IL

Job description

The Opportunity

FutureSight is seeking a Co-Founder & CTO to lead the technical foundation of a new AI ROI Measurement venture currently in build at our studio. This is a co-founder partnership with founder-level equity and founder-level authority, not a salaried executive role.

We are building a vendor-neutral measurement and governance platform that captures AI activity wherever it happens through a browser extension and endpoint agent - without per-vendor integrations - benchmarks utilization, proficiency, and business impact through a proprietary UPV framework, and gives the CFO and CIO an auditable view of value creation across the enterprise. Think Nielsen for enterprise AI, with an autonomous FinOps layer on top.

The customer thesis is validated, design partners are engaged, and the market work is complete. We are now seeking the technical co-founder to lead the venture from here, partnering closely with FutureSight to define direction and bring on a CEO co-founder when the right partner emerges.

Market Context
  • Enterprises spent approximately $644B on AI in 2025, yet 72% of initiatives are destroying value and 69% of leaders have lost visibility into which AI tools their teams use
  • 45% of enterprise AI adoption happens outside IT procurement, and finance teams cannot consolidate vendor reporting across logins, tokens, and API calls
  • TAM is estimated at approximately $7.0B across the US and Canada, with roughly 23,400 target enterprises of 1,000+ employees
  • 85% of senior leaders say the window for AI advantage closes within 18 months, with horizontal incumbents extending into adjacent space in 2026
  • Vertical specializations and autonomous AI FinOps remain open white space for outcome-priced agents that execute savings rather than just report them
About FutureSight

FutureSight is a leading venture studio that co-creates world-class software companies with values-driven entrepreneurs from inception to exit. We are a team of founders, operators and designers with experience successfully bringing software to market at scale.

You'll co-create with a proven studio team, including:

  • John Carbrey - 4x founder, bootstrapped to $100M ARR
  • Joshua Auslander - Seasoned CFO and strategic advisor with $200M aggregate exits
  • Alan Smith - Globally recognized early stage validation expert, 24 products launched, an exit, 5M+ books sold
  • Prathna Ramesh - Early-stage investor and capital strategy advisor
The Partnership
  • Founder-level equity with meaningful ownership from inception, aligned across funding rounds
  • Founder-level authority, including co-decision rights on product, technology, hiring, fundraising, and strategy, with a board or board-observer seat as appropriate
  • Pre-seed capital committed by FutureSight for early hires and MVP development, with potential for follow-on funding
  • Studio resources, including embedded design, engineering, growth, and fundraising support from day one
  • Investor and advisor network across enterprise SaaS, AI infrastructure, and early-stage capital markets
  • A true co-creation model in which you operate as CTO with the studio as your partner, and partner directly with the incoming CEO co-founder on every material decision
What you'll own

As Co-Founder & CTO, you will set the technical direction of the venture and lead its execution. This is a co-founder role, not a CTO hire.

  • Architecture & Code - Write the first lines of production code and set the architecture, data model, engineering culture, and security posture, including the browser extension, endpoint agent, 15-minute refresh pipeline, and zero-content-retention design
  • Product Build - Ship the discovery layer with design partners, deliver the UPV framework with GitHub/Jira correlation, release GA v1 with governance controls aligned to EU AI Act, ISO 42001, and NIST AI RMF, and ship the governed AI access hub and a vertical specialization within 18 months
  • Customer & Market - Represent the company in front of CIOs, Chief AI Officers, CFOs, security teams, and investors, with a target of ten paying enterprise customers and $1M ARR within 18 months
  • Compliance - Lead SOC 2 Type II readiness and ensure the platform meets the audit, tenant isolation, and data residency demands of enterprise procurement
  • Team - Recruit and lead the founding engineering and applied AI team, and establish the cultural foundation of the company
Co-Founder Profile
  • Prior founder, founding engineer, or early-stage technical leadership experience
  • Shipped data-intensive, multi-tenant SaaS into enterprise production, with buyers including CIOs, CFOs, and CISOs
  • Full-stack confidence across browser extensions and endpoint agents, high-throughput event ingestion, real-time analytics, applied LLMs, and secure multi-tenant SaaS (SOC 2, tenant isolation, audit logging, data residency)
  • Well-formed convictions about telemetry design and privacy-preserving instrumentation, developed through production experience
  • Clear-eyed understanding of the risks and demands of co-founding a venture-backed company, with the ability to operate as a principal
  • Strongly preferred: background in enterprise observability, FinOps, security analytics, or governance/GRC; experience shipping browser extensions or endpoint agents at enterprise scale; applied LLM evaluation experience; and familiarity with EU AI Act, ISO 42001, and NIST AI RMF
How to Apply

Please submit your resume, LinkedIn profile, and a brief note on why this venture aligns with your goals as a founder. We will move quickly for the right candidate.

FutureSight is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and experiences.
