• Team Health & Culture: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture grounded in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Delivery & Execution Ownership: Own delivery outcomes for the team, ensuring predictable, high-quality software delivery through strong execution, prioritization, and operational rigor.
• Planning & Backlog Management: Partner with Product Management to define, prioritize, and maintain a healthy product backlog aligned with strategic goals, technical capacity, and business impact.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, business stakeholders, analytics, and partner engineering teams to define, brainstorm, and scale the next generation of eBay shipping products.
• Technical Vision & Quality: Define and communicate the team’s technical vision, championing engineering best practices, sound architecture, and innovation while raising the bar on performance, reliability, and system quality.
• Technical Problem Solving: Guide and support the team in solving complex challenges related to large-scale systems, performance optimization, and operational reliability.
• Strategic Execution Balance: Balance near-term delivery commitments with long-term technical and product strategy to maximize impact while managing technical debt responsibly.
• Organizational Influence: Partner effectively with peer managers, senior engineers, and leadership across eBay to align on priorities, influence decisions, and drive shared outcomes.
• Hiring & Talent Growth: Participate in hiring, onboarding, and talent planning to build and sustain a strong engineering team over time.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 10+ years of overall professional experience, including 5+ years in an engineering leadership or management role, leading small to medium-sized software engineering teams.
• Strong technical background with experience building and operating large-scale, distributed systems emphasizing high availability, scalability, and resilience.
• Demonstrated ability to drive consistent, high-velocity delivery while maintaining high standards for quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments, including sprint planning, prioritization, and continuous improvement.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical and business topics, align stakeholders, and influence decisions at multiple levels.
• Strong product intuition and the ability to collaborate effectively with product, analytics, and business partners to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Proven ability to quickly learn new technical domains, adapt to evolving requirements, and lead teams through change.
Preferred:
• Experience building real time, user facing systems (e.g., live streaming, chat, bidding, collaboration tools, gaming, or financial trading) where latency and errors materially impact user trust and outcomes.
• Background working on high traffic, event driven products (launches, flash sales, live events) with an understanding of infrastructure capacity planning, traffic spikes, and graceful degradation under load.
• Lead root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes across platform to eliminate recurring issues and continuously elevate the customer experience.
• Websocket and FGQL experience a plus.
