Brief Description

The Director, Enterprise Architecture and Business Integration (the Director herein) is responsible for the leadership and management of the Enterprise Architecture, Business Integration and Relationship Management, and Governance departments within the Information Services (IS) division of the College of American Pathologists (the CAP).The department assists the CAP in achieving its organizational objectives and responding to disruptive technology and market forces by enabling the delivery of business capabilities and stewarding technology resources to their most efficient and effective use.

In this role, the Director serves as a member of the IS leadership team, which has responsibility for the operational, strategic, and fiscal leadership and management of the IS division. The IS division enables business competitiveness, operations, and innovation through the efficient and structured use of information and the deployment of information technology capabilities, services, and solutions. IS is guided by an operational and technical strategy to increase digital enablement and innovation capabilities to drive member and customer value; drive business value through greater strategic alignment and delivery; operate efficiently, effectively, and securely to achieve long-term sustainability.

The Director models the key behavioral and performance attributes that guide CAP employees including the Leadership Values: Partnership, Respect, Accountability, Communications, and Excellence. Additionally, the Director demonstrates: ongoing commitment to the CAP’s mission, vision, and values; consistent alignment of department activities to IS strategy; effective engagement with CAP stakeholders; an ongoing desire to build consensus, attention to detail; and on-time, high-quality delivery of all capabilities, work products, and services.

    

Specific Duties

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead the core capability of Enterprise Architecture including its development, utilization, and influence within CAP. As such, the capability provides the following:
      • Ensure support and alignment between the technology strategy and business strategy.
      • Set Information Services (IS) division’s technical direction.
      • Provide core architectural services including: strategic and scenario-based planning, development of technical strategies and roadmaps, and leadership in the establishment of CAP architectural standards.
      • Anticipate industry, technology, and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the enterprise business strategy, direction, and technical direction.
      • Execute change to enable desired enterprise outcomes.
      • Oversee and lead the core capability of IS Governance Capabilities including its development, utilization, and influence within CAP.
      • Oversee and lead the IT and business integration and relationship management function.

 

Strategy

  • Collaborate with the CIO, CTO, and IS senior leadership team, and the business to drive development and execution of an integrated, customer-focused enterprise-wide, multi-year strategy and strategic plan.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and communication related to the multi-year IS strategy and strategic plan, and ensure alignment to the CAP’s enterprise, information, and digital strategies.
  • Provide input and guidance to CTO on emerging technologies and innovation activities as it relates to impact on the CAP’s technology ecosystem and longer term plans.
  • Contribute to strategic IS CAP leadership messaging and communication.

People and Process

  • Advise and provide guidance to CAP leaders on strategy, planning, and operations management processes that foster improvements in performance through the effective use of technology and innovation.
  • Work with CAP business leaders to integrate business and IT planning to maximize opportunities, develop innovative approaches, and design solutions that improve business outcomes through the effective adoption and application of technology.
  • Develop and manage the Enterprise Architecture and Business integration department budget, as well as annual performance goals and objectives.
  • Manage, develop, and evaluate a team of managers.
  • Demonstrate people manager competencies as described in the CAP People Manager Expectations document found on CAP.NET under the Accelerating CAP Performance Toolkit.
  • Manage communications and coordination with business stakeholders, other IS departments, third-party providers, and sourcing partners.
  • Collaborate with other IS and CAP leadership to support the organization’s goals, mission, values, processes, and policies.
  • Lead and drive change.

Technology

  • Provide technology leadership, guidance, and vision to the enterprise.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Enterprise Architecture resources in the determination and maintenance of the IS Division’s technical direction.
  • Consult on the selection, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of technologies required to support the CAP’s current and emerging business needs.
  • Work collaboratively as necessary with other IS resources to develop proposals and specifications for technology initiatives and systems.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Provide ongoing, high-value consulting and guidance to business stakeholders to foster improvements in performance through effective application of technology and innovation.
  • Acts as a chief advocate and communicator of IS services and capabilities.
  • Serve as a formal liaison to the business to address needs and concerns related to IS services and capabilities.
  • Foster alignment and integration of business strategy and IS strategy.
  • Work with the business to understand technology needs and consult on the design of technology service offerings to meet business needs.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science/business administration or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Approximately 10 years substantive experience in IS management and technical roles.
  • Approximately 10 years substantive experience in people and team management roles.
  • Experience with, or substantive exposure to, general management roles related to strategy including strategic planning and financial management (especially of technology and technology investments).

Additional Criteria

  • Weekend and evening work required when necessary; expected to be modest.
  • Travel required when necessary; expected to be less than 10%.
  • Onsite in-office work required minimum three days per week.
  • This position is based out of the Northfield, IL office. Candidates must reside within 75-miles of the Northfield office.
  • Salary: $170,000 - $220,000
