Job description

Apave America is looking for skilled, safetydriven craft professionals to join our Radiation Decontamination team. This role supports national radiological cleanup, decommissioning, and decontamination projects across the United States.

As a Radiation Decontamination Technician, you will:

Perform radiological decontamination of tools, equipment, materials, and workspaces using manual, chemical, mechanical, or specialized decon methods
Conduct contamination surveys, smear sampling, and verification checks
Support Radiation Work Permit (RWP) compliance: postings, boundaries, and personnel monitoring
Assist with containment setups, temporary ventilation systems, and housekeeping within controlled areas
Maintain accurate documentation per NRC, DOE, OSHA, and sitespecific procedures
Operate decontamination systems and perform routine inspections
Participate in radiological cleanup and emergency response activities
Apply ALARA principles and follow all federal, state, and site safety regulations


Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
Experience in radiation decontamination, hazardous materials, nuclear ops, industrial hygiene, or similar fields
Ability to work in respirators, protective suits, and radiologically controlled areas
Familiarity with radiation detection instruments (friskers, survey meters, etc.)
Ability to lift 40-50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks
Ability to travel and work across multiple states as required
Must meet background check, medical clearance, and site access requirements


Preferred Qualifications

Experience working at DOE, NRClicensed, or DOD radiological facilities
HAZWOPER 40 certification
Knowledge of NORM/TENORM, nuclear outage work, or environmental remediation
Previous qualification as a Decontamination Tech, RCT Helper, or Health Physics Technician
Experience with advanced decon technologies (laser, CO blasting, chemical decon systems)
