Job Description
Position: Special Education Paraprofessional - Preschool Intervention Program (PIP)
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides direct, individualized support to a student with a disability in accordance with the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Under the supervision of a certified special education teacher, the PIP Paraprofessional assists in implementing instructional activities, supporting student development, promoting independence, and maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment. The ideal candidate is patient, collaborative, and committed to helping preschool-aged children achieve developmental and educational success.
Responsibilities include supporting the student's academic, functional, communication, and social-emotional development; implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) with fidelity; assisting with transitions throughout the school day; and maintaining a structured, consistent, and supportive environment. The paraprofessional may also assist with personal care, mobility, feeding, and toileting as required, while ensuring the student's dignity, safety, and independence are prioritized at all times.
The paraprofessional works closely with the special education teacher, general education staff, and related service providers to ensure continuity of services and compliance with IDEA and Georgia Department of Education requirements.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required;
Must meet paraprofessional requirements as defined by state and district guidelines;
Ability to work effectively with a student requiring individualized support, including cognitive, physical, behavioral, and/or medical needs;
Ability to follow IEPs, behavior intervention plans, and teacher direction with fidelity;
Knowledge of confidentiality requirements and compliance with IDEA and Georgia Department of Education special education rules;
Ability to assist with personal care, mobility, feeding, and toileting as required;
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with school staff and families;
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Wayne County Board of Education and the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary and Contract: Salary commensurate with the paraprofessional salary schedule and experience.
