Senior Dispatcher

Reports To: Director, Operations

Location: Must be on-site, and hours may include weekends -- Bensenville, IL ( ORD)

Position Summary

The Senior Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the timely movement of local deliveries and, more importantly, all air cargo and related ground transportation activities serving United Transportation’s Chicago ORD operations. This role ensures efficient pickup, delivery, and transfer of freight between airlines, cargo terminals, warehouses, and customer locations while maintaining compliance with transportation, security, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate has been a driver and/or has a decade or more of experience dispatching local ground transportation for airport cargo operations and thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily pickup and delivery schedules for airport cargo shipments.
• Dispatch local drivers to ensure on-time freight movement.
• Monitor shipment status from airline arrival through final delivery.
• Communicate with airlines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehouses, and customers regarding shipment updates.
• Track driver locations, delivery progress, and service exceptions.
• Assign loads based on equipment availability, driver hours, shipment priority, and customer requirements.
• Ensure compliance with TSA, FAA, DOT, and company safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate dispatch records, shipment documentation, and proof-of-delivery records.
• Respond quickly to service disruptions, flight delays, missed connections, and customer emergencies.
• Coordinate special handling requirements for time-critical, hazardous, temperature-controlled, or high-value cargo.
• Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS), dispatch software, and cargo tracking platforms.
• Support after-hours and weekend operations as required.

Required Qualifications

• Qualified dispatch experience in air freight, airport cargo, courier, trucking, or logistics operations.
• Experience coordinating local ground transportation serving airport cargo facilities.
• Strong understanding of air cargo operations and freight documentation.
• Familiarity with TSA, DOT, FAA, and airport security requirements.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, dispatch systems, and transportation software.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
• Saturday working hours will be required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with freight forwarding, 3PL, or cargo airline operations.
• Knowledge of domestic and international air cargo procedures.
• Familiarity with EDI systems, TMS platforms, and GPS fleet tracking.
• Experience dispatching owner-operators and company drivers.
