Job description

Phlebotomist, PRN

The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood specimens from patients. Individuals must be proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture. Individuals must follow laboratory policy on proper identification of patients and handling of obtained specimen. Responsibility of phlebotomist encompasses provision of care to patients, from neonates to geriatrics. Individuals must be willing to cross-train in additional roles and float to other departments to meet the needs of the facility. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead. Verbalizes stroke alert process. Draws blood for stroke panel and delivers specimens to laboratory on stroke alert patients.

Qualifications

Phlebotomist job requirements:

Education requirements: High school diploma and technical school; associate of applied science or AS degree preferred.

Experience: 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience required.

License/certification: Phlebotomy certification required within 6 months of hire.
