PRINCIPAL FOCUS OF THE POSITION

UCC Environmental is a progressive well-run company, with excellent customer relationships and Utility-specific (Power Generation) as well as other Heavy Industries (including Mining, Cement, Pulp & Paper, Steel Chemical, Microelectronics, etc.) technology solutions. The Company has developed a business strategy encompassing market growth through a variety of channels, including organic domestic growth, technology and business acquisitions, strategic partnering and expanded international sales coverage. The Company has strong sales channels in North America, and currently possesses emerging sales channels in Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (AP).

The focus of the position will be to leverage Utility Power, Heavy Industrial, and environmental compliance experience to develop and implement business objectives and strategic sales plans in coordination with the UCC Environmental Sales and Marketing Management Teams.  Primary responsibilities will include technically and strategically directing the territory for all sales initiatives meeting US EPA requirements and any other potential need an end user may have that would require new material handling, air pollution control, or water treatment systems.  The role will also include training and development, corporate and site level customer relationship development/ management, opportunity identification, and technical sales presentations. 

The District Sales Manager reports to the Manager of Field Sales of UCC Environmental.  The District Sales Manager must combine strong technical knowledge with capabilities in Customer Relationship Management. This is an individual contributor role and includes responsibilities to manage four additional resources (outside sales) that are in place to ensure all Territory Sales Targets are met or exceeded. The District Sales Manager shall work closely with Current and Prospective Clients, Internal Sales personnel, and Engineering Departments. Frequent travel to Customer sites is expected.  Visits to the UCC Environmental Office in Waukegan could be required on an as-needed basis.

 

The District Sales Manager will:

  • Plan, organize, direct, and control the execution of the District Sales Office goals and maintain a profitable territory.
  • Develop the Annual Business Plan for the territory that includes all water treatment & management, material handling, dry sorbent injection as well as aftermarket parts sales opportunities for the domestic Utility coal-fired power plant market, with particular emphasis on CCR/ELG compliance initiatives; as well as other heavy industrial markets that includes but is not limited to Natural Gas Power Generation, Mining, Cement, Pulp & Paper, Chemical, etc., including anticipated sales outlook;
  • Achieve annual sales volume targets;
  • Identify, hire and train new resources as defined by annual District growth plans and overall corporate strategy.
    • There will be a need to continue growing the District and hiring of new subject matter experts will be expected.
  • Coach and mentor District Engineers in the territory (general sales training and technical training)
    • Currently there are four additional salespeople in the territory.
  • Grow and maintain contract sales and replacement parts sales per plan/forecast.  Interface with Marketing, Product Management, Contract Sales Estimating, Contract Engineering, Supply Chain, Field Service and Accounting departments of UCC as required to accomplish goals.
    • This includes discovering new opportunities and closing orders.
  • Build and maintain market expertise through market research and competitive analysis, networking with key customers, engineering firms, general contractors and strategic partners;
  • Drive sales strategies and programs to strengthen current and potential market penetration and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to customers regarding specific components, assembly or systems engineering.  Assure existing UCC systems operate correctly and oversee the progress of contracts and give assistance as required.
  • Travel is required for face-to-face meetings where 100 to 140 customer calls per year are expected (15-20/month)
    • Priority focus, and minimum of a monthly visit, to each Owner’s Corporate Office location(s).
    • Other Customer visits would include Plant sites, Engineering Firms, General Contractors and other Strategic Partners within the Territory.
    • Periodically travel with other four District Engineers to ensure targets are met, direct customer engagement/support remains at acceptable levels and identified areas of training (technical and commercial) are completed;
  • Demonstrate UCC Environmental core values;

Education:

A Bachelor of Science in engineering (mechanical, chemical, civil or environmental) is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • 15+ years of technical problem solving and/or sales experience in engineering/technology-based power generation and/or heavy industrial environments, wastewater treatment and material handling experience desired
  • 7-10 years of management experience
  • Business development experience with success breaking into new markets
  • A proven track record of growing sales channels and sales revenue
  • Track record of successfully promoting newly developed technical strategies
  • General business acumen

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk using a computer 50% of the time
  • Ability to work standing for long periods and ability to walk client facilities
  • Ability to travel and drive to customer sites 3-4 days per week (15-20 meetings/month)
  • Ability to walk around industrial facilities for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders

Compensation and Benefits

Base Pay Range:  $150,000 - $200,000 annual pay based on skills and experience

Other Compensation:    Incentive pay of 0-50% based achieving sales targets as outlined in the incentive plan.
