TxILC serves as a statewide resource base for legal service providers, develops and disseminates legal information and tools for advocates and immigrant communities, and advances practical, common-sense immigration solutions through public policy work and coalition building.

About the Economic Justice Initiative

TxILC's Economic Justice Initiative (EJI) is a statewide effort to expand civil legal access for low-income immigrants in Texas. Since launching in 2024, EJI has built a statewide network of host organizations spanning legal aid providers, law school clinics, medical-legal partnerships, and community-based nonprofits. We have placed a cohort of attorney and non-attorney Legal Access Fellows across Texas, providing legal services and outreach at host organizations. Central to EJI's model is the Community Justice Worker (CJW), non-attorney advocates who are trusted, trained community members who extend legal information and navigation services into communities where the traditional legal system does not reach.

We are now entering an implementation period in which host site fellows are designing and launching community-based CJW pilots, engaging network CJWs embedded in community organizations, and building toward a statewide CJW network. A key to our model's success is the ability to communicate what we are building and learning to the broader field, and to ensure that the research and evaluation work undergirding that story is coordinated, rigorous, and grounded in real program activity.

Job Summary

Note: This is a grant-funded position. The current grant funding this position is through September 2027. Extension of this position beyond September 2027 may be possible depending on available funding and organizational circumstances.

The Impact and Communications Coordinator Fellow will help EJI tell the story of its work, and ensure that story is grounded in research and real program data. This position leads EJI's external communications and impact materials, manages relationships with external research contractors, and coordinates the research and evaluation activities that produce the findings EJI shares with the field. This role reports to the Economic Justice Initiative Director and works in close collaboration with the Economic Justice Project Manager.

This role will also work closely with EJI leadership, managing attorneys, fellows, host organizations, researchers, contractors, and community partners to ensure that impact communications and research coordination are grounded in the core work of the initiative. The Impact and Communications Coordinator Fellow will not operate separately from program implementation. Instead, this position will be a part of the environment of projects, partnerships, and emerging models so that EJI's external communications and research work are both practical and impactful.

The ideal candidate brings experience in either impact communications or research and evaluation, and genuine interest in the other. They are a strong writer and communicator, comfortable working across contractors and partners, and able to translate complex program activity into clear and compelling public-facing narratives. A commitment to access to justice and interest in innovative legal service delivery models, including the emerging role of non-attorney advocates, is essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop and produce EJI's external-facing impact materials, including briefs, presentations, newsletters, articles, papers, one-pagers, and other communications, that translate the initiative's work and findings for diverse audiences.
• Manage EJI's relationships with external research contractors, including directing research priorities, providing programmatic input into research design, and coordinating the development and production of major research publications and reports.
• Translate program data, research findings, and lessons learned into clear, compelling narratives for stakeholders, partners, and the public.
• Manage EJI's external digital presence, including the EJI website and quarterly newsletter, ensuring content is current, accurate, and reflects the initiative's evolving work and impact.
• Coordinate with TxILC's communications team to align EJI's impact communications with organizational messaging, branding, and publishing workflows.
• Help identify patterns, themes, and practical recommendations from program data that can improve program design, partnerships, and overall impact, and ensure those insights inform EJI's strategy.
• Work closely with the Project Manager to support EJI's evaluation systems, including data collection, monitoring workflows, and reporting processes across fellows, host organizations, and internal staff.
• Apply Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks to support ongoing program assessment, with sufficient familiarity with MEL concepts to provide meaningful input into evaluation design and methodology.
• Maintain a consistent external communications presence for EJI by managing the production calendar for impact materials and ensuring timely, high-quality outputs.
• Support the collection, organization, and synthesis of program data, qualitative insights, and lessons learned across the initiative.
• Prepare written and visual materials for conferences, convenings, publications, and other opportunities to share EJI's work and advance the field.
• Stay engaged with EJI's programmatic work so that external communications reflect real implementation conditions, emerging findings, and evolving priorities.
• Support development of projects and systems in ways that strengthen EJI's long-term scale and sustainability.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be located in Texas or willing to relocate to Texas. Travel within Texas required.
• Master's degree or J.D. preferred; Bachelor's degree or equivalent strongly preferred.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in impact communications, nonprofit storytelling, or public-facing content development, or in program evaluation, applied research, or Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), with demonstrated interest in or familiarity with the other.
• Demonstrated experience producing reports, briefs, publications, presentations, or similar written outputs for external audiences.
• Experience working with external contractors, researchers, or evaluators, or in coordinating across multiple partners toward a shared product or goal.
• Familiarity with program evaluation frameworks, such as logic models, theories of change, or MEL approaches, whether through direct practice or close collaboration with evaluators.
• Experience working in nonprofit, legal services, policy, advocacy, or community-based settings preferred.
• Commitment to expanding access to justice, particularly for communities that are underserved or have historically faced barriers to legal help.
• Ability to engage respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and experiences, with the recognition that inclusive collaboration leads to stronger outcomes.
• Flexible, collaborative team player who can work effectively across multiple workstreams in a fast-moving and innovative environment.
• Spanish preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary with a range between $75,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience, education, and training. TxILC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-sponsored health and dental insurance, a 401(k), flexible work schedules, paid vacation and holidays, and professional development opportunities.

This position also includes a one-time completion bonus payable upon successful completion of the fellowship term at the end of September 2027.
