The organization is seeking a compassionate and recovery-oriented Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) to provide comprehensive substance use disorder assessment, counseling, and care coordination services for individuals seeking recovery. This clinician will work as part of a multidisciplinary behavioral health team delivering evidence-based, person-centered treatment designed to support long-term recovery, improve overall wellness, and address the social and behavioral factors impacting health.

The CADC will conduct comprehensive substance use assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, provide individual and group counseling, coordinate care with internal and external providers, and assist clients in overcoming barriers to treatment. Job Duties

Clinical Care

• Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments utilizing ASAM criteria to evaluate substance use history, behavioral health needs, level of care, and treatment recommendations.
• Develop individualized, person-centered treatment plans that support recovery goals and incorporate evidence-based clinical practices.
• Provide individual, group, and psychoeducational counseling utilizing evidence-based treatment approaches such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relapse prevention, and other recovery-oriented interventions.
• Monitor client progress throughout treatment and modify treatment plans as clinically appropriate.
• Educate clients and family members on addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle changes.
• Provide crisis intervention and support clients experiencing behavioral health or substance use crises.

Care Coordination

• Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, peer support specialists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate whole-person care.
• Assist clients in accessing community resources that address housing, transportation, employment, insurance, food insecurity, and other social determinants of health.
• Coordinate referrals for higher levels of care, behavioral health services, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and community recovery supports as appropriate.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and treatment planning meetings.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation within the Electronic Health Record.
• Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and complies with organizational, state, federal, Medicaid, and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain compliance with Illinois Rule 2060, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, SAMHSA guidelines, CARF standards, and other applicable regulations governing substance use treatment.

Professional Practice

• Participate in individual supervision, staff meetings, case consultations, and ongoing professional development activities.
• Support quality improvement initiatives designed to strengthen clinical outcomes and client engagement.
• Maintain CADC certification and required continuing education.
• Uphold professional ethics, confidentiality, and recovery-oriented best practices.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field required.
• Experience working within outpatient substance use treatment, community mental health, FQHC, or integrated behavioral health settings required.
• Current Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) credential in good standing through the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA) or other recognized Illinois certifying body required.
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery principles, ASAM criteria, DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based treatment approaches required.
• Experience providing individual and/or group counseling in a behavioral health or substance use treatment setting required.
• Strong clinical assessment, documentation, crisis intervention, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team while building trusting relationships with clients and families.
• Experience utilizing Electronic Health Record systems and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.

• Familiarity with medication-assisted treatment (MAT), co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing.
• Experience serving underserved, culturally diverse, or high-acuity populations.
• Valid Illinois driver's license and reliable transportation for community-based responsibilities, if applicable.
