The Software Engineer maintains, builds, and manages new and existing software applications and systems through the entire development lifecycle to support all trading execution and related processes. Success in this role requires someone who is a skilled software developer, able to learn new skills and technologies as needed, and who is well-organized and focused on continual personal, system, and process improvement.

Principal Responsibilities:

Software Development and Implementation

  • Implement software using a variety of technologies, languages, and tools (.NET, C#, Python, ASP.NET, SQL/SQL Server/Oracle, etc.) with a focus on software quality
  • Design, implement, and perform unit, functional, integration, and system testing. Partner with end users by developing test plans and test cases and supporting user testing
  • Participate in deployments of changes to test and production environments
  • Work with external vendors and other counterparties to design, develop, integrate, and test systems

Business Analysis

  • Work with internal stakeholders to build and document requirements and develop full system designs
  • Assist with maintaining the product backlog to prioritize work within the team and with internal stakeholders

Process and System Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvements to existing systems and processes.
  • Produce and keep up-to-date system and process documentation for developers and stakeholders.

Technical Expertise

  • Mentor peers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing sessions.
  • Take ownership of and act as subject matter expert on the trading execution and related systems to recommend and implement good design principles.

Production Support

  • Provide as-needed support for trading technologies during normal business hours as well as occasional off-hours.
  • Own ticket triage, rootโ€‘cause analysis, and postโ€‘mortem documentation.

Decision making authority

  • Prioritize work and feature deliveries to meet deadlines.
  • Determine component architecture and database designs
  • Guides management to determine future direction of overall system architectures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related fieldโ€” or equivalent professional experience and training.
  • 3+โ€ฏyears of professional experience developing in C#/.NET (or a comparable objectโ€‘oriented language).
  • 3+โ€ฏyears of handsโ€‘on experience with SQL Server, Oracle, or another relational database platform.
  • Proven ability to apply sound softwareโ€‘design and systemโ€‘architecture principles.
  • Working knowledge of Python.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience with CI/CD pipelines, sourceโ€‘control systems, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problemโ€‘solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicationโ€”capable of translating complex technical ideas to nonโ€‘technical audiences.
  • Selfโ€‘motivated, organized, and equally comfortable working independently or within crossโ€‘functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Apache Airflow and authoring directed acyclic graph (DAG) code
  • Knowledge of financial instruments (futures, forwards, equities, fixedโ€‘income, options) and tradingโ€‘execution workflows.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience with software testingโ€”unit, integration, or endโ€‘toโ€‘end.
  • Prior experience managing projects.
  • Understanding of financial technologies (FIX, Bloomberg API, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft middleware and security technologiesโ€”WCF, MSMQ/Service Bus, Windows Services, AD, and related security patterns.
