Job description

Job Description:

  • The Systems Control Engineer supports the development of advanced automotive propulsion control systems across combustion, hybrid, and electrified vehicle platforms.
  • This role combines controls modeling, data analysis, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and requirements development throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Working within a highly cross-functional environment, the engineer develops control strategies, validates system performance, generates technical requirements, and provides engineering deliverables that enable downstream software teams to implement production-ready solutions.

Primary deliverables include:
  • Engineering requirements
  • Control system designs
  • Performance data
  • Validation results
  • Technical recommendations

Responsibilities:
  • The position includes significant diagnostic and investigative work.
  • Analyze unexpected system behaviors.
  • Investigate control system issues using data-driven methodologies.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting efforts with other engineering teams.
  • Validate corrective actions through testing and analysis.
  • Determine whether identified issues originate from controls, hardware, calibration, or other vehicle subsystems.
  • The role requires strong collaboration skills, as troubleshooting often involves multiple engineering organizations working together to resolve complex vehicle system issues.

Requirements:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work across multiple technologies and projects simultaneously
  • Systems-level thinking
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new propulsion technologies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments
  • Flexibility to support both conceptual engineering and hands-on testing activities
  • Capability to translate technical findings into actionable requirements and recommendations

Preferred:
  • MATLAB/Simulink development
  • Stateflow modeling
  • Automotive control systems
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Propulsion system knowledge

  • Testing Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
  • Vehicle testing
  • Dynamometer testing
  • Test bench operation
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems
  • Prototype validation
  • Controls verification and validation
  • Industry Knowledge

Preferred familiarity with:
  • Automotive propulsion systems
  • Internal combustion engines
  • Hybrid systems
  • Electric vehicles (EVs)
  • Battery systems
  • Transmission controls
  • Vehicle system interactions
