Salary:

Lead Lifeguard/Swim Instructor Overview:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Specialist, perform assistance, training and supervision of the Aquatics staff as required. Maintain and develop a comprehensive swim program and events at the pool. Perform public safety work in preventing injuries in the municipal pool facility.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety walkarounds of all areas of responsibility with staff on a daily/per shift basis, in order to hold safety to the highest standards of the facility.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and executing engaging events at the pool facility; ensuring all activities are safe and aligned with community goals.
  • Supervise and evaluate lifeguard/swim instructing staff, monitor water chemicals,

and manage pool deck area and its patrons.

  • Perform a variety of duties including teaching swim lessons, constant observance of patrons, enforcement of safety rules and regulations, and administration of first aid and/or artificial resuscitation.
  • Train aquatics staff in the policies, rules and regulations governing the use of the pool facilities.
  • Responsible for the completion of all pool deck work (i.e., cleaning decks, gutters, guard office, restrooms/cabanas, garbage etc.)
  • Responsible for all aspects of running a comprehensive public swim lesson program and competitive swimming program. Prepare and maintain pool rotation and training records.
  • Assist in the conduct of special swimming activities.
  • Handle all patron and pool problems in an efficient, timely and proper manner

according to established procedures.

  • Function as a lead part of a crew within an emergency plan for the handling of

accidents in pool areas.

  • Perform other duties as required


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to swim 500 meters
  • Strong customer service, listening and problem-solving skills
  • Supervisory/management skills
  • Competency in management, administration, promotion and program development
  • Experience in relationship building with families of all ages and abilities
  • Ability to use computers and MS Office software including word processing and database software
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with people
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations and to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet company needs, may include occasional nights and weekends
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

Education and Experience:

HS Diploma or GED

3 months (one season) lifeguarding/teaching experience


Required Certifications:

American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid within the first thirty (30) days of employment.


Preferred Certifications:

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
