Duties and Responsibilities

Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center (MVPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists for their outpatient teams. Outpatient clinics and programs are located in Rome, NY, Herkimer, NY, and Utica, NY.

As a Psychiatrist at MVPC, you will provide comprehensive, patient centered, and recovery focused treatments to individuals with mental illness 18 years of age or older, including:

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and admit patients
• Create treatment plans including medication management
• Obtain and review appropriate laboratory tests and consult with treatment team as needed
• Provide individual and group psychotherapy

About MVPC: MVPC is a community-based psychiatric center providing behavioral health services to children and adolescents. Located in Utica, NY, MVPC Children and Youth services provide inpatient care in a youth‑friendly and safe setting. Family participation plays a large role in treatment and recovery plans. MVPC offers community‑based clinic programs in Utica, Rome, and Herkimer for individuals 18 years and older. Outpatient treatment focuses on strength‑based and person‑centered approaches to recovery.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State and have certification in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/55‑c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

Limited permit option: If you are licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada, and meet the other requirements for Psychiatrist 1 or 2, you are also eligible if you have a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. If appointed, you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued. Failure to do so will result in removal from your position.

Transfer Opportunity: Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Psychiatrist 1 or Psychiatrist 2 or Psychiatrist (Children and Youth) to be eligible for lateral transfer.
