Job description

About the Opportunity

A growing and highly respected multifamily general contractor is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of an active multifamily construction project in South San Diego. This position will be based onsite in the San Ysidro area and offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to both project management and field operations.

Unlike many traditional APM roles, this position will provide direct involvement in the day-to-day management of construction activities while also supporting project administration, coordination, scheduling, subcontractor management, and project documentation. The ideal candidate is looking to build a long-term career in construction management and enjoys working closely with both office and field teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants broad project exposure, enjoys being onsite where the work is happening, and is eager to learn from experienced construction professionals.

Responsibilities

Project Management Support

  • Assist with project documentation, correspondence, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, vendors, and ownership representatives.
  • Help track project schedules, procurement activities, and material deliveries.
  • Support project budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting efforts.
  • Participate in project meetings and maintain accurate meeting minutes and action items.
  • Assist with permit, inspection, and closeout processes.

Field Operations Support

  • Work closely with the Superintendent to monitor daily construction activities.
  • Assist with subcontractor coordination and schedule adherence.
  • Help identify and resolve project issues before they impact schedule or budget.
  • Support quality control and safety compliance efforts.
  • Participate in site walks and progress inspections.
  • Assist with punch list and turnover activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–5 years of construction experience with a general contractor.
  • Multifamily construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a motivated construction professional who enjoys being involved in all aspects of a project rather than being limited to a single function. They are eager to learn, willing to take initiative, and comfortable working both in the field and behind the scenes to keep projects moving forward.

This individual values teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement, and is looking for an opportunity where they can gain meaningful responsibility and grow into larger project management or field leadership roles over time.

Company Description

We are a multifamily general contractor with a strong reputation for delivering quality residential apartment communities throughout Southern California. Our success is built on collaboration, accountability, and a hands-on approach to construction.
We believe the best projects are built by great people, which is why we invest heavily in developing our team members and providing opportunities for long-term career growth. Unlike larger corporate environments where roles can become highly specialized, our team members gain exposure to all aspects of the construction process and work closely with experienced project and field leadership.
If you're looking for an environment where you can take ownership, expand your skillset, and contribute to meaningful projects while continuing to advance your career, we'd love to hear from you.
