Sheldon Builders

Residential Estimator / Project Administrator / PCS CoordinatorFull-TimeBoulder, CO

Do you want to work for a builder that puts clients first and takes pride in building healthier, more durable, and more comfortable homes?

Sheldon Builders remodels and builds custom residential spaces in Boulder, CO, creating beautiful homes designed for the way clients truly want to live. Our work is rooted in craftsmanship, strong client relationships, and a growing focus on high-performance building principles, including healthier homes, durability, comfort, moisture management, energy efficiency, and thoughtful construction practices.

We are looking for an experienced residential construction professional who understands both the office and field sides of building. The ideal candidate has real-world residential construction experience, ideally including hands-on carpentry or trade experience, and can use that knowledge to create accurate estimates, support owner selections, review plans, identify missing scope, and help prepare projects for successful execution.

The Opportunity

This role is responsible for developing cost estimates, supporting pre-construction and owner selections, coordinating project details, and preparing clear handoff packages for the production team.

The right person will be able to look at drawings and understand not only what is shown, but also what is missing. This person should be comfortable working with clients, architects, designers, subcontractors, and internal team members to define scope, clarify expectations, support budgets, and keep projects moving forward.

This is a strong fit for someone with deep residential construction knowledge who enjoys estimating, planning, client communication, and occasionally stepping into project management support for smaller projects or to assist the production team when needed.

What You'll Do
  • Work with clients, architects, designers, subcontractors, and internal team members to assess project needs, clarify scope, and support the preconstruction process.
  • Develop preliminary pricing, rough order of magnitude budgets, and detailed cost estimates for residential remodeling and custom home projects.
  • Review drawings, plans, specifications, and project details to identify missing scope, unclear information, and potential construction issues.
  • Use residential construction knowledge and field experience to anticipate sequencing, material, labor, and constructability needs.
  • Support owner selections and help guide clients through decisions that affect budget, scope, schedule, and project execution.
  • Prepare accurate and timely estimates with clear scope, pricing, specifications, production rates, and assumptions.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to gather pricing, confirm availability, and clarify project requirements.
  • Help create and maintain estimating and pre-construction processes for multiple projects at once.
  • Prepare clear handoff packages for project managers and production teams.
  • Step in as needed to support smaller projects, assist project managers, or provide backup during busy periods.
  • Communicate proactively with clients and team members to help keep clients informed, confident, and cared for throughout the process.
  • Support Sheldon Builders' commitment to high-performance building, healthier homes, quality craftsmanship, and thoughtful construction practices.
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in residential construction, estimating, project coordination, project management, or a closely related role.
  • Strong preference for candidates with hands-on carpentry, building, or trade experience.
  • Experience with custom residential construction, remodeling, high-end residential work, or complex residential projects.
  • Ability to read and understand residential construction drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Strong ability to identify missing details, incomplete scope, and potential construction challenges before they become field issues.
  • Knowledge of residential construction sequencing, materials, assemblies, subcontractor scopes, and jobsite realities.
  • Strong estimating, budgeting, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with clients, architects, designers, subcontractors, and team members.
  • High emotional intelligence, professionalism, curiosity, and a genuine desire to serve clients well.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines at once.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Computer literacy and experience with tools such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Smartsheet, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Master Builder, or similar construction management/estimating software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-performance building, green building, Passive House principles, or building science concepts.
  • Experience supporting owner selections, pre-construction, design coordination, or client-facing planning meetings.
  • Experience working for a custom home builder, remodeler, or residential general contractor.
  • Ability to support both estimating and project administration, with the flexibility to assist in project management when needed.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Full-time position.
  • Salary range: $85,000-$110,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and fit.
  • Continued training and professional development.
  • Opportunity to work with a respected Boulder builder focused on craftsmanship, client care, and high-performance residential construction.
