School Nurse at Ruidoso High School

Qualifications:

New Mexico Public Education Department School Nurse License or eligibility

Current New Mexico RN License

Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Verified First Aid and CPR Certification

Experience working with students (preferred)

Proficiency in data entry and word processing (preferred)

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student health information

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and administration

Responsibilities:

Collect and manage student health and development data

Evaluate and respond to illness complaints using professional judgment

Administer first aid to students and staff

Monitor and enforce immunization compliance per state guidelines

Notify families of missing vaccinations and report data to appropriate agencies

Refer families to local health services when needed

Plan and conduct routine health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing)

Maintain accurate student health records and accident documentation

Promote health education and wellness throughout the school

Collaborate with counselors, social workers, Special Education case managers and administrators to support Individual Health Plans (IHPs), 504 plans, and emergency response protocols

Participate in school safety drills and crisis response planning

Administer prescribed medications and monitor chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures)

Ensure documentation aligns with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policy

Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout the school campus for extended periods

Ability to sit for extended periods to complete computer-based documentation and data entry

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted (e.g., medical supplies, equipment)

Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including kneeling, bending, or assisting a student from the floor

Sufficient vision and hearing to assess student health needs

Manual dexterity to use medical instruments and computer equipment

Ability to perform CPR and other emergency medical procedures as needed
