Role Description The Staff Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in the Springfield, Illinois Metropolitan Area. This position is responsible for preparing and reviewing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accounts, and assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual closes. Day-to-day tasks include reconciling bank and balance sheet accounts, preparing financial statements, and supporting tax filings and audits with accurate documentation. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with senior team members to analyze financial data, identify variances, and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. This role also involves responding to client inquiries, supporting process improvements, and contributing to a reliable, organized accounting function.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation with a high level of accuracy.
• Understanding of GAAP or other relevant accounting standards, and familiarity with tax concepts and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, as well as strong skills in Microsoft Excel and other office applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and interact professionally with clients.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA eligibility or certification is a plus.
• Prior experience in public accounting or corporate accounting is preferred, especially in a client-focused environment.
