Role Description The GIS Analyst – Environmental Air Modeling is a full-time hybrid role based in Santa Monica, CA, with flexibility for part-time work from home. The role involves preparing, managing, and analyzing spatial datasets to support air quality and atmospheric modeling studies. Day-to-day responsibilities include building and maintaining GIS databases; processing environmental, meteorological, and emissions data; and generating maps, layers, and visualizations that inform modeling scenarios and reports. The analyst collaborates with environmental scientists and engineers to integrate GIS outputs into air dispersion and exposure models, and documents methodologies, assumptions, and results for internal and client use. The role also includes quality control of spatial data, automation of workflows where possible, and support for project proposals and technical presentations.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in GIS Applications and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for environmental and air quality projects.
  • Experience with GIS Analysis, including spatial queries, geoprocessing, and map production for technical reports.
  • Strong Data Management skills, including organizing, cleaning, and maintaining large spatial and tabular datasets.
  • Demonstrated Analytical Skills for interpreting environmental data, assessing trends, and supporting modeling assumptions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geography, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Geospatial Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with air quality or atmospheric modeling tools (e.g., AERMOD, CALPUFF, CMAQ) is preferred.
  • Experience with scripting or automation in GIS environments (e.g., Python, ModelBuilder) is beneficial.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly in written reports, maps, and presentations.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a hybrid setting, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
