The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience, skill, and empathy to help clients navigate through their mental health challenges.

About the Organization

At River Valley Counseling Services, we believe in the power of connection and understanding in the therapeutic process. We strive to provide inclusive mental health services that cater to the unique needs of each individual. Our mission is to empower clients to achieve their mental health goals through evidence-based practices and community support. We are committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for our staff, allowing them to thrive while impacting the lives of those we serve.

Work Environment

This position will operate primarily in a remote outpatient setting, offering the benefits of flexible scheduling and the ability to work from the comfort of your own home. However, as the role may require occasional visits to our outpatient office in Huntington, you will also enjoy the opportunities that a face-to-face community connection provides. Our practice emphasizes a healthy work-life balance, supporting our counselors in delivering optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' mental health status through interviews and standardized tools to identify their unique needs.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans based on ongoing evaluations and client feedback.
  • Facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions utilizing culturally responsive methodologies to engage clients effectively.
  • Monitor clients’ progress by keeping detailed records and making necessary adjustments to treatment strategies as required.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and social workers to provide holistic care.
  • Offer resources and referrals to clients needing additional support services, ensuring a continuum of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with state regulations and organizational policies using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Patient Population / Client Focus

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at River Valley Counseling Services, you will work with a diverse client population. You may encounter individuals dealing with a range of mental health issues, including but not limited to depression, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, eating disorders, and substance use disorders. Providing therapeutic services in a culturally sensitive manner is critical to effectively support our clients in their mental health journeys.

Qualifications
  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
  • Current and valid license as an LMFT, LMHC, LCSW, or LCSW-R in New York State.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant clinical experience providing mental health counseling.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from various cultural backgrounds, demonstrating cultural competence and sensitivity in therapy.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in outpatient settings with diverse treatment modalities and special populations.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices for treating mental health disorders, including DBT, CBT, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong skills in crisis intervention and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.
  • Proven track record of building strong rapport and trust with clients to foster lasting therapeutic relationships.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $100,000 annually, dependent on experience and qualifications. Our comprehensive benefits package includes healthcare coverage plans, access to a retirement savings plan with employer-matching contributions, and generous paid time off (PTO) that encourages a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, we provide opportunities for continuing education and professional development to help you advance your career.
