The Organization

Rhubarb, reopening in 2026, is a chef-driven, farm-to-table restaurant in the heart of downtown Asheville serving modern Appalachian cuisine with genuine hospitality. What does that mean? That at Rhubarb, we believe in people-first hospitality from our employees to our farm partners to our guests. We are hiring a Pastry Prep Cook / Bread Baker, but the person will always come before the role.

The Person 

As a Pastry Prep Cook/Bread Baker at Rhubarb, you champion Southern foodways with modern sensibilities. You believe that the whole process is important when it comes to dining: from sourcing our produce and proteins locally and farm-direct, to whole animal usage and sustainability, to working as a team to execute a consistent experience for our guests. You are an autonomous person but enjoy working in a small team. 

The Role

  • Responsible for bread baking, from scratch production and baking items for in-house programs at both Rhubarb and The Rhu. Production includes but is not limited to: an advanced bread program, laminated doughs, morning pastries, cakes, and seasonal rotating plated desserts inspired by local produce.
  • Mix, shape, proof, and bake
  • Follow recipes carefully 
  • Support the pastry team in a variety of stations/roles/recipe execution

The Qualifications

  • 2 years of professional bread baking experience
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Lift up to 50lbs
  • Great taste in music
