Job description

Medical Billing & Patient Accounts Coordinator

Resnick Audiology is a small, independently owned audiology practice in Midtown Manhattan. We pride ourselves on providing highly personalized care and are looking for an experienced, organized professional to take responsibility for the billing and patient account side of the practice while also providing some administrative and patient support.

Position Summary

This is a part-time, hybrid position of approximately 28 hours per week. The majority of the work can be performed remotely and will involve medical billing and patient account responsibilities. The position will also include some regular in-office hours in our Midtown Manhattan office, assisting with phone calls, patient messages, scheduling, front-desk coverage, and other administrative needs. Some of these patient-support responsibilities may also be performed remotely.

This is not a high-volume billing-company position. We are a small practice, and we are looking for someone who will get to know our patients, our accounts, and our day-to-day operations and take ownership of making sure things are handled accurately and nothing falls through the cracks.

Responsibilities

Billing and Patient Accounts

  • Verify insurance benefits and eligibility for hearing evaluations and hearing aids
  • Obtain prior authorizations when required
  • Submit insurance claims accurately and promptly
  • Track unpaid and denied claims and follow up persistently with insurance carriers
  • Recognize when additional documentation or medical records may be needed and coordinate with our audiologists
  • Post insurance and patient payments
  • Review patient accounts for missing charges, payments, or other discrepancies
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Prepare patient statements
  • Communicate professionally with patients regarding insurance benefits, coverage, billing questions, and balances
  • Maintain accurate patient-account records
  • Help ensure that billing and payment information in our practice-management system is complete and accurate
  • Generate and maintain organized A/R reports and review outstanding accounts with the practice owner

Patient and Administrative Support

  • Assist with incoming phone calls and outstanding patient messages
  • Return patient calls and schedule appointments
  • Help ensure that patient messages are addressed promptly and do not fall through the cracks
  • Provide front-desk coverage when needed
  • Assist with other administrative responsibilities as needed

Who We're Looking For

The right person for this position is more than someone who knows how to submit a claim. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Smart, resourceful, and an excellent problem-solver
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of responsibilities
  • Persistent when dealing with insurance companies and resolving difficult claims
  • Comfortable with numbers and accounts receivable
  • Able to recognize problems and take the initiative to address them without waiting to be told
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Patient and courteous with an older patient population
  • Comfortable working both independently from home and as part of a small team in the office
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and conscientious

Qualifications

  • Medical billing and insurance experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working directly within a physician, dental, audiology, or other healthcare practice strongly preferred
  • Experience with insurance verification, claims submission and follow-up, payment posting, denials, and accounts receivable
  • Experience communicating directly with patients about insurance and billing
  • Front-desk or patient-service experience is a plus
  • Comfortable learning new practice-management software
  • Strong Excel skills helpful

Position Details

  • 40 hours of PTO per year after three months of employment
  • Paid holidays
  • 401(k) eligibility after one year, with employer match up to 4%
