Wooster & Associates is seeking a Director of Traffic Engineering to lead and grow our traffic engineering practice. This is a strategic leadership role combining practice ownership, business development, client and agency relationships, and organizational leadership, reporting directly to firm leadership and playing a key role in shaping the company's long-term growth strategy.
This position is ideal for a senior engineering leader who is as comfortable setting practice strategy and growing client relationships as they are ensuring technical excellence across a team's project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Leadership
Own the strategic direction, growth targets, and P&L performance of the traffic engineering practice.
Lead, mentor, and develop the practice's engineers, designers, project managers, and technical staff, including future team leads/managers as the group scales.
Set and uphold technical standards, quality assurance processes, and a culture of accountability and professional growth across the practice.
Serve as the firm's senior technical authority for traffic engineering, providing final oversight on complex or high-visibility projects.
Project Delivery
Provide executive oversight of Transportation Impact Studies (TIS), Traffic Impact Assessments (TIA), traffic operations analyses, parking studies, roadway safety evaluations, and transportation planning projects delivered across the practice.
Set standards for project schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation across a multi-project, multi-state portfolio.
Maintain senior-level relationships with developers, architects, planners, municipalities, DOTs, and regulatory agencies.
Ensure consistent delivery quality across jurisdictions, agency requirements, and company standards firm-wide.
Business Development, Client & Industry Leadership
Represent Wooster & Associates as its senior spokesperson for traffic engineering at public meetings, planning commission hearings, zoning hearings, agency coordination meetings, industry conferences, and strategic partnership discussions.
Own and grow strategic relationships with developers, land development firms, municipalities, transportation agencies, architects, planners, and institutional clients.
Set the practice's business development strategy and lead pursuit of new markets, service lines, and strategic growth initiatives.
Lead proposal strategy, fee structuring, client presentations, and contract negotiations for major pursuits.
Serve as a trusted executive advisor to clients throughout planning, permitting, and approval processes.
Participate in firm-wide leadership discussions, contributing to company strategy beyond the traffic practice alone.
