FLSA Status: Volunteer (Non-Compensated)

RE-1 Valley School District is seeking dedicated and positive Volunteer Coaches to support our student-athletes and athletic programs.

Volunteer coaches assist the head coach and athletic department in providing a safe, structured, and positive environment where student-athletes can develop athletic skills, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about mentoring students and supporting school activities.

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coach assists the head coach in supporting the athletic program by helping instruct student-athletes in sport-specific skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and safe participation. Volunteer coaches serve as positive role models and help create a supportive athletic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Athlete Development

• Assist with teaching fundamental skills and sport-specific techniques
• Help supervise and support student-athletes during practices and competitions
• Promote teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship
• Encourage positive character development

Practice & Game Support

• Assist with organizing and conducting practices
• Support game-day preparation and supervision
• Help monitor student-athlete safety during activities

Student Supervision & Safety

• Ensure student-athletes follow safety guidelines and team expectations
• Report injuries or concerns to the head coach
• Maintain a positive and respectful environment for all participants

Program Support

• Follow direction of the head coach and athletic director
• Adhere to district, league, and CHSAA rules and policies
• Model professional conduct and good sportsmanship

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the sport and ability to teach fundamental skills
• Ability to work effectively with middle school or high school students
• Commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork, and student development
• Ability to pass required district background check

Requirements

• Completion of district volunteer application
• Background check clearance
• Compliance with district and CHSAA athletic policies
• Completion of required safety or coaching training as assigned

Working Conditions

• Outdoor and indoor athletic environments depending on sport
• Practices and games may occur after school hours or evenings
• Seasonal commitment based on sport schedule

RE-1 Valley School District has two high schools, one middle school, one junior high school, three elementary schools and two preschools and serves approximately 1,910 students in the Sterling and Iliff/Crook areas, employing about 400 staff. RE-1 Valley School District utilizes a 4-day school week schedule (Tuesday-Friday).

Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District.  The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the Front Range (I-25 corridor).
