Job Summary

Teachers at Radius provide critical support and learning opportunities to high-need youth who are placed in the Radius treatment program in a approved Rule 18 Interim Program school. Educational needs are often significant, complex, and vary from student to student. An added bonus of no lesson planning or having to find your own substitute! Teachers are supported by academic and behavioral specialists in the classroom and both work together on interventions in all domains for students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement both group and individual lesson plans for daily learning experiences.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Instructs students utilizing a variety of classroom methods, adapting methodology and instructional materials to meet student needs, abilities, and IEPs.
  • Assigns and grades class work and homework; prepares, administers, and grades tests.
  • Establishes and implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student behavior, performance, social development, and physical health.
  • Maintain professional communication with administration and facility administrators and leaders
  • Oversee classes for youth ages 12-18.
  • Additional duties may include, but not limited to, escorting students, community projects, and collaborative projects with other faculty / staff members.

Position Requirements

  • A current Nebraska Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain an alternative or transition certificate in Nebraska prior to full certification
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school preferred
  • Previous classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of NE State Standards preferred
  • Teaching experience with at risk youth preferred
  • Willingness to learn and implement teaching strategies for youth in residential treatment
  • Hours of Work: Expect to work 40 hour a week minimum.
  • CPR required
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Travel: Some travel required.
  • Exposure: The exposure characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. For example, while performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be exposed to bloodborne and other hazardous chemicals. Finally, the noise level in the work environment is rarely loud. In all cases personal protective equipment will be provided to the employee in combination with adequate ventilation and other engineering controls to minimize the risk of exposure or other hazardous occurrence.
