Job description

Human Resources Manager

Wine Industry | Napa Valley | Full-Time, Exempt

A well-established wine organization in Napa Valley is seeking a hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead all HR functions, including policies and procedures, benefits and payroll administration, talent acquisition and retention, employee relations, and health and safety. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws while supporting a diverse workforce that includes a high percentage of Spanish-speaking, seasonal employees. This is a trusted, relationship-driven role — the ideal candidate is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and comfortable communicating policies, resolving employee concerns, and delivering training in both languages. The position manages a small team of 2–3, including payroll and safety.

HR Leadership & Employee Relations

Serve as the HR point of contact for employees and managers; develop, translate, and enforce company policies and the employee handbook

Advise leadership on employee relations, performance management, and organizational issues

Support managers with coaching, feedback, and corrective action; lead investigations, documentation, and resolution of workplace issues

Oversee performance review processes and development planning

Manage HR vendor relationships, including HRIS and benefits brokers

Payroll, Benefits & Compensation

Own payroll accuracy, compliance, and timeliness, including review of timekeeping, piece-rate tracking, and wage calculations

Communicate pay structures and benefits clearly in both English and Spanish

Administer benefits programs (enrollments, terminations, changes) and partner with brokers/vendors on renewals and communications

Support compensation benchmarking and pay structure updates

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA standards and California wage and hour regulations (meal/rest breaks, overtime)

Own Workers' Compensation administration and claims management

Oversee safety programs and training

Manage leaves of absence, including FMLA, state leave programs, and accommodations

Maintain compliant employee documentation (I-9, personnel records) and applicable federal program compliance

Recruitment & Workforce Planning

Develop and implement recruitment strategies for seasonal and year-round employees

Conduct interviews, onboarding, and orientation in both English and Spanish

Partner with management to maintain appropriate workforce levels

Qualifications

5+ years of Human Resources experience, including at least 2 years in an HR leadership role

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required

Wine industry experience preferred

Strong knowledge of state and federal HR/labor laws

Proficiency with HRIS/payroll platforms (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, UKG, or Paycom) and Microsoft Office

High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to work independently with limited supervision

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary in the $110,000–$120,000+ range, depending on experience

Comprehensive benefits package
