Job description

Warehouse Forklift Operator
Job Summary
The Forklift Operator at Packaged Produce Solutions (PPS) plays a critical role in our food manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for safely transporting products of various forms, sizes, and shapes between the production floor and warehouse areas. Duties include maintaining accurate inventory records, handling pick tickets and ensuring smooth material flow. Due to the environmental range—34°F inside coolers to over 100°F outdoors or dry storage—appropriate PPE is mandatory.
Daily tasks involve using barcode scanners, tablets, laptops, manual and electric pallet jacks, temperature measurement devices, and other warehouse equipment. Training will be provided for equipment and the inventory management portion of our ERP system. Adherence to GMP, OSHA, and food safety standards is crucial. This position uniquely requires frequent movement across controlled environments, transporting raw products, work-in-progress (WIP) items, packaging materials, and finished goods.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving and Delivery Responsibilities:
  • Safely receive and unload deliveries from drivers, using equipment such as electric battery powered sit-down forklift trucks, pallet jacks, and stand-up lift trucks.
  • Inspect delivered items and complete receiving inspection forms.
  • Use the ERP system to record transactions.
Inventory Management:
  • Ensure the safe and proper storage of all raw products, packaging items, and other materials in both the cold storage and dry goods packaging storage areas.
  • Perform cycle counts as needed and participate in monthly periodic inventories.
  • Ensure food safe inventory practices, such as FIFO and Allergen control, are always followed.
Order Fulfillment and Shipping (when necessary) Responsibilities:
  • Retrieve finished goods from the production floor, inspect packaging and label data, and confirm destination and quantity.
  • Accurately process, package, and load orders for shipping.
  • Organize pallets and prepare them for loading out the next day.
General Expectations:
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all company safety and hygiene regulations, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).
  • Inspect products for defects and damage, examining both incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Conduct pallet repairs using tools such as nail-guns and hammers.
  • Occasionally need to handle the clearing of ice from tops of pallets and perform down-stacking for safety purposes.
  • Outdoor assignments consist of loading dumping bins of organic waste into haul-off dumps and dock area cleanup.
  • Contribute ideas on ways to improve or optimize warehousing procedures.
Collaboration: Work closely with Quality Assurance and other departments to uphold quality and operational standards.
Warehouse Organization: Learn and understand warehouse racking and location systems. Maintain cleanliness and organization by executing pick-up requests, put-away orders, and pick tickets accurately.
Equipment Inspections: Perform twice-daily inspections of pallet jacks, promptly reporting any damage. Certification by PPS is required before operating equipment.
Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in meetings and contribute suggestions to improve warehouse processes and efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable warehouse operations experience.
  • Solid understanding of inventory management principles.
  • Previous experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or similar.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and planning abilities.
  • Physical stamina to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Highly energetic, self-driven, adaptable to fast-paced environments.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating electric pallet jacks.
  • Forklift experience is required.
