Job description

Job Description - Deputy Clerk

Salary – mid 30’s

The deputy clerk position in the Ohio County Circuit Clerk’s Office supports the judicial system and serves the residents of the County. We work closely with courts and legal professionals to ensure accurate recordkeeping and efficient handling of cases in our electronic file system. The job entails professionalism and accountability.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in the Circuit Clerk’s Office in the Ohio County Courthouse, Wheeling, WV.

The position involves preparing, reviewing, filing and maintaining court records and documents and ensuring the case information is accurate, complete and properly organized. Daily tasks include assisting with court proceedings, interacting with attorneys, judges, law enforcement and the public in a professional manner, processing payments for fines and fees, accurate data entry into the case management system and support for other clerical tasks as needed.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in banking, legal studies or criminal justice a plus; office experience; ability to follow procedures of the office and follow office manual and work in a team setting; Confidentiality; proficiency with office software and data entry. Knowledge of legal terminology, strong communication skills; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
