Role Description

The Book to Film Adaptation & Book Editing Intern will support the development team in evaluating books and written materials for potential film and television adaptation.

Day-to-day tasks may include reading manuscripts, preparing coverage and story summaries, suggesting adaptation approaches, and assisting with editing and refining book content.

The intern will help maintain project trackers, conduct light industry and market research, and participate in internal discussions about story, character, and tone.

This is an internship role based in Culver City, CA with a hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site collaboration with some work-from-home flexibility. The intern will gain insight into the adaptation process and the fundamentals of development and editing.

Qualifications

• Strong narrative analysis and storytelling abilities, including the capacity to evaluate plot, character arcs, and thematic coherence.
• Proficient in written communication, with the ability to draft clear coverage, notes, and editorial suggestions.
• Attention to detail in reviewing manuscripts, with a careful approach to structure, pacing, and consistency.
• Comfort with independent reading and research, including learning about comparable titles, audience trends, and market positioning.
• Interest in film, television, and publishing, with a desire to learn how books are adapted for screen.
• Ability to manage time effectively, handle multiple projects, and meet agreed-upon deadlines in a hybrid work environment.
• Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback, with professionalism in written and verbal interactions.
• Enrollment in or recent completion of a program in film, literature, creative writing, communications, or a related field is beneficial.
