Job description

About the Role
A well-established, growing MA-based microscope sales and service firm is seeking a maintenance and repair technician to join our full time staff. This role is ideal for either an entry-level candidate looking to learn a technical trade through on-the-job training, or an experienced field service technician who wants to expand their skillset. You will work directly with our long-standing New England customers (hospitals, universities, pharma/research, manufacturers) to keep their microscopes and related equipment operating at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and calibration of microscopes
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, optical, and basic electronic issues.
  • Replace parts such as bulbs, stages, lenses, power supplies, gears, and other components.
  • Ensure equipment meets manufacturer standards and user needs; document service activities.
  • Communicate service findings, recommendations, timelines, and recommendations to customers.
  • Provide customers with recommendations for upgrades, replacement equipment, or accessories based on their workflow and budget.
  • Work closely with the sales team to identify customer needs and generate service or product leads.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with small precision components.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel throughout New England for on-site service visits.

Preference given to candidates with:

  • Experience as a Field Service Technician (any industry).
  • Familiarity with optical equipment, electronics, or laboratory instruments.
  • Basic understanding of microscopes or imaging equipment.
