At Mower, we are employee owned. Which means we expect every employee to act like an owner. To fully embrace our values and culture of inclusion. Simply because, we’re not just an agency. We are a community of fierce friends — thinkers, makers, and innovators who foster an entrepreneurial spirit and demand a diverse mindset. A place with purpose, striving to create authentic and enduring emotional connections between brands and people. A place where you can be your best, while empowering others to be theirs. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team environment. This role offers the opportunity to support clients across a variety of industries, including renewable energy, infrastructure, economic development, and other sectors where public engagement and stakeholder relationships are critical to success.
Essential Skills and Responsibilities
  • Take part in client discussions around specific PR/PA strategies and recommend appropriate tactics.

  • Be a self-starter who can prioritize work, juggle multiple projects and succeed as a part of a highly motivated and driven team.
  • Collaborate with PR/PA leadership and play an active role in executing client programs.
  • Possess strong written skills, including Associated Press Stylebook formats and use of SEO best practices.
  • Possess solid verbal and presentation skills for use in client meetings.
  • Understand and stay current on social media platforms and have the ability to execute programs using digital tools.
  • Develop compelling pitch angles, research the media landscape and secure editorial coverage.
  • Monitor media changes and keep Mower’s shared database of important targets finely tuned.
  • Help to plan and manage successful special events and client activation programs.
  • Think visually and look for opportunities to communicate using video, photography and graphics.
  • Support the management of client budgets.
  • Recognize and avoid potential legal, regulatory and ethical issues involving client communications activity, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Use tools provided by the agency to monitor and measure client programs.
  • Stay current on client industry developments, general economic and political news, and leading communications theory/techniques.
  • Maintain client status reports and provide updates to measurement and tracking documents.
  • As needed, oversee assistant account executives and agency interns, guiding their journey into PR/PA.
Additional Public Affairs Responsibilities
  • Support the planning and execution of grassroots and grasstops engagement programs, including stakeholder outreach, relationship management, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Assist in developing outreach materials, fact sheets, presentations, talking points, stakeholder correspondence, and other public affairs communications.
  • Conduct stakeholder research and mapping to identify key community leaders, elected officials, organizations and influencers.
  • Develop first drafts of client materials, including communications plans, meeting summaries, reports, outreach strategies, and public-facing content.
  • Participate in community meetings, public events, stakeholder interviews, canvassing and listening sessions as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Public Affairs team members to develop and execute integrated client programs.
  • Support issue monitoring and analysis related to client projects, public policy developments, community sentiment and emerging stakeholder concerns.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to independently move assignments forward while seeking guidance when appropriate.
Educational Requirements amp; Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, political science, public policy, marketing or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in public affairs, public relations, community engagement, political campaigns, government relations, stakeholder engagement or related communications field
