Position Overview

The Cabinet Maker is a skilled professional who specializes in creating custom architectural millwork. They work closely with designers and other professionals to bring the customer's vision to life. Cabinet makers are responsible for crafting high-quality, functional, and aesthetically pleasing cabinets and millwork using various tools, materials, and techniques.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Produce or assemble components of articles, such as die walls, office equipment, cabinets, or high-grade furniture.
• Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.
• Verify dimensions or check the quality or fit of pieces to ensure adherence to specifications.
• Measure and mark dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock prior to cutting, following blueprints, drawings, diagrams, or oral or written instructions, to ensure a tight fit and quality product.
• Set up or operate machines, including power saws, jointers, mortisers, tenoners, molders, or shapers, to cut, mold, or shape woodstock or wood substitutes.
• Attach parts or subassemblies together to form completed units, using glue, dowels, nails, screws, or clamps.
• Install hardware, such as hinges, handles, catches, or drawer pulls, using hand tools.
• Trim, sand, or scrape surfaces or joints to prepare projects for finishing.
• Match materials for color, grain, or texture, giving attention to knots or other features of the wood.
• Cut timber to the right size, and shape and trim parts of joints to ensure a snug fit, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
• Perform final touch-ups with sandpaper or steel wool.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools, such as saws, drills, and sanders.
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in measurements and cuts.
• The ability to visualize spaces to create appropriate furniture.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing workmanship.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and processes.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to follow established guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED certificate
• Completion of a cabinet making apprenticeship or woodworking training preferred
• 3+ years of experience as a Cabinet maker

Physical Requirements

• Physical dexterity and ability to bend and lift for extended periods of time.
• Able to stand for duration of working hours.
• Work involves walking, talking, hearing, and using material handling equipment.
• Vision abilities require close vision assessments.
• Required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs. continually.
• May be required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Moderately loud noise levels in plant environment.
