Job description

MC Power is seeking an experienced VP of Business Development to join our team in the Lee’s Summit office. They lead the sales team by developing and implementing sales plans to increase the company’s profit and motivating their employees to hit these sales goals. With the main objective of driving additional pipeline growth and project successes in commercial, industrial, educational facilities, municipal, utility scale, and agriculture solar and energy storage. A deep knowledge of grid analysis, comfort and experience with being the face of the company at customer meetings, and strong technical energy storage expertise is a must.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve sales targets. Ensure consistency with company’s overall business goals and marketing strategy.
  • Create and communicate sales goals and ensure C-level executives are informed on the progress of those goals.
  • Manage vendors and project budgets
  • Manage, build and strengthen several large investor-owned utility, coop and municipal client relationships
  • Build and maintain long-lasting, strong relationships with customers while partnering with them to better understand their business objectives and needs.
  • Familiarity and comfort in landowner negotiations
  • Effectively communicate value propositions through presentations and proposals.
  • Represent the Company at industry functions and regulatory meetings
  • Evaluate market drivers including new technologies, financial incentives, government/regulatory issues and business structures to continually grow the portfolio and maintain a competitive position in the industry
  • Evaluate new markets and make comprehensive presentations to management on ideal
  • Have a strong existing knowledge base on energy storage, the system components, and optimization exercises
  • Experience and deep understanding of the U.S. utility scale solar and energy storage markets
  • Experience with reviewing and providing inputs for solar as well as energy storage financial models
  • Experience in PPA negotiations
  • Prepare RFP and bi-lateral proposals for both solar and energy storage projects
  • Secure locations for new projects, both solar and energy storage - - ultimately securing selected sites
  • Understanding and experience with interconnection processes
  • Demonstrated success at leading teams
  • Proven ability to articulate the distinct aspects of services and products
  • Knowledge of how to develop client-focused, differentiated and achievable solutions
  • Understanding of how to position products against competitors
  • Demonstrated experience in structuring and closing complex financial transactions
  • Demonstrated track record of consistently sourcing and advancing projects through various stages of development to start of construction
  • Strong fluency in solar project finance, contracts, utility interconnection, and construction/ EPC issues
  • Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation and structuring
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior executives
  • Advanced technical knowledge (e.g., familiarity with renewable technologies, power markets, legislation, regulatory issues)
  • Proficient in use of MS Office 365 and other office productivity tools
Education and Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering is required; MBA or related field preferred
  • 5-10 or more years’ work experience in the energy industry
