Role Description The Assistant Store Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Matherne’s Market @ 440 on Third (Downtown) in Baton Rouge, LA. This role supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations, including supervising staff, monitoring customer service standards, and maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked store. Responsibilities include assisting with scheduling, training team members, managing opening and closing procedures, and supporting merchandising and inventory control. The Assistant Store Manager will help address customer concerns, support loss prevention efforts, and ensure compliance with store policies and safety guidelines. This role also contributes to meeting sales goals, maintaining accurate reporting, and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.

Qualifications

• Strong customer-facing skills, including Customer Service and a focus on Customer Satisfaction.
• Effective interpersonal and Communication skills to lead, coach, and collaborate with team members.
• Experience with Store Management or supervisory responsibilities in a retail or grocery environment.
• Knowledge of Retail Loss Prevention practices and commitment to maintaining a safe, secure store.
• Additional beneficial qualifications: prior grocery or food retail experience, basic understanding of inventory and merchandising, ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights, flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a high school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in business or retail management is a plus).
