Role Description The Structural Steel Drafter is a full-time, on-site (office) role based in Duluth, MN. This position prepares detailed shop and erection drawings for structural steel components, including beams, columns, connections, rebar, and miscellaneous metals, using Autodesk Advance Steel and Revit software. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting architectural and engineering plans, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and shop personnel, and ensuring drawings comply with codes, standards, and project specifications. The drafter reviews and updates drawings based on markups and RFIs, maintains organized project documentation, and supports fabrication by providing clear, accurate details and quantities. The role also involves checking for dimensional accuracy and constructability while adhering to internal drafting standards and timelines.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in structural drafting tools such as Autodesk Advance Steel, Revit, or similar steel detailing software.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and shop drawings, including steel member schedules, connection details, and weld details.
• Understanding of structural steel design principles, standard steel shapes, welding symbols, and bolt types and patterns.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy in dimensions and quantities, and commitment to maintaining drafting standards and file organization.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and field personnel.
• Basic knowledge of relevant building codes, AISC standards, and typical fabrication and erection practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a construction environment.
• Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field; prior structural steel drafting or detailing experience is required.
