Position Overview

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) seeks an Environmental Justice Intern for the 2026 Fall Semester. This is an unpaid, part‑time (10 hours per week) internship lasting from 9/21/2026 to 12/4/2026. Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.

DCR works to protect, promote, and enhance Massachusetts’ environmental resources and open spaces. The internship aligns with DCR’s mission to advance environmental justice, language access, and public involvement.

Responsibilities
  • The candidate will work with DCR’s Senior Director of Environmental Justice to learn about agency strategies and identify a project related to environmental justice, language access, or public involvement.
  • Take responsibility for one project under guidance from the Senior Director, completing agreed milestones by the internship’s end.
  • Assist with updates and implementation of DCR’s language access plan.
  • Perform other environmental justice and public involvement tasks as needed, time permitting.
Qualifications
  • Desirable: Experience with environmental justice principles, language access services, or public engagement programming.
  • Motivation to learn about and contribute to these areas is highly prioritized.
  • Strong time‑management skills, organizational ability, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
