Job description

Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides supervision, support, and structure for residents in a residential treatment setting. Staff are responsible for maintaining safety, enforcing program expectations, supporting healthy coping skills, and helping create a consistent and therapeutic environment for residents.
Behavioral Health Technicians work closely with the clinical and case management teams to support resident stability, accountability, and progress within the program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervise residents and maintain a safe, structured environment
  • Enforce program rules, expectations, schedules, and house guidelines consistently
  • Monitor resident behavior and report concerns to supervisors or clinical staff
  • Support residents in utilizing healthy coping skills and emotional regulation techniques
  • Assist with conflict resolution and use approved de-escalation strategies during crisis situations
  • Provide appropriate supervision during meals, groups, recreation, transportation, and community activities
  • Maintain professional boundaries and model appropriate behavior
  • Complete required documentation including shift notes, incident reports, and behavioral observations
  • Communicate effectively with Program Director and other staff
  • Conduct room checks, safety checks, and facility monitoring as required
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and overall structure within the residence
  • Transport residents as needed
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working in behavioral health, residential treatment, mental health or substance abuse preferred 
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and consistent in high-stress situations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain healthy boundaries
  • Basic computer and documentation skills
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Crisis intervention or de-escalation training
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles
  • Experience working in residential or behavioral health settings
Schedule
  • Full-time and part-time positions available (Swing and Graves)
  • Day, swing, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required
Work Environment
This position works in a residential behavioral health setting and may involve exposure to challenging behaviors, emotionally stressful situations, and crisis intervention scenarios.
