**About the Position

**

Kintara is currently supporting a fast-growing space technology company that's building advanced optical systems used by NASA, SpaceX, Boeing, Raytheon, the U.S. Department of Defense, and other leading aerospace organizations.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll help design and develop precision mechanical and optomechanical systems that support next-generation telescopes, imaging platforms, and space-based technologies. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll work closely with optical, electrical, manufacturing, and software engineers to take products from concept through production.

If you enjoy solving challenging mechanical design problems, building precision hardware, and working on technology that pushes the boundaries of aerospace and space observation, this is an outstanding opportunity.

**Responsibilities

**

  • Design precision mechanical and optomechanical assemblies for advanced optical systems

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)

  • Perform mechanical analysis including stress, vibration, and thermal evaluations

  • Collaborate closely with optical, electrical, manufacturing, and software engineering teams

  • Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and production readiness

  • Participate in design reviews and engineering documentation

  • Work with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve design and production challenges

  • Help improve designs for manufacturability, reliability, and long-term performance

**Experience Requirements

**

  • 3-8 years of mechanical engineering experience

  • Strong mechanical design and product development background

  • Experience with SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or similar CAD software

  • Hands-on experience with fabrication, machining, assembly, or prototype development

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals

**What You Bring

  • Mechanical product design experience

  • CAD modeling and engineering drawing experience

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Desire to own projects from concept through production

**Preferred Qualifications

**

  • Aerospace, optics, precision manufacturing, or defense experience

  • FEA experience using ANSYS, Nastran, or similar software

  • Experience with tolerance analysis and Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

  • Familiarity with precision alignment, materials, coatings, and fastener selection

  • Experience supporting prototype builds and engineering validation

  • Python or MATLAB experience is a plus
