About the Role

Kahak Health Care Services (KHCS) is seeking a licensed Psychiatrist to join our team as a core clinical provider within Washington, D.C. This position plays a critical role in the diagnosis, treatment, and psychiatric oversight of adults and/or youth with serious mental illness (SMI), emotional disturbances, and co-occurring disorders.

The psychiatrist will work collaboratively with therapists, nurses, Certified Peer Specialists, community support workers, and other behavioral health professionals to provide comprehensive, recovery-focused care aligned with DBH guidelines and D.C. Municipal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Performing diagnostic psychiatric evaluations.
  • Ongoing psychiatric management, including psycho-pharmacologic treatment, psycho-therapeutic support, and crisis intervention.
  • Assuring comprehensive healthcare needs are identified and treated.
  • Providing team consultation and clinical oversight of nurse practitioners as well as participation in interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
  • Educating clients about their illness and providing health management information.
  • Documenting clinical care in the electronic clinical record.
  • Individualized treatment plans for new and established patients via in-person appointments.
  • Focus on each patient you see – our administrative team takes care of the busy work.
Requirements
  • Required License/Certification: Must be a board-eligible or board-certified Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner licensed in DC.
  • Must be competent at treating adolescents with trauma histories and complex behavioral health needs.
  • Competency in crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.
  • Unencumbered DEA / Clean criminal background.
  • Green Card holder or United States Citizen.
